Tommys Taxi – Gig In A Cab
Well folks… the old girl has officially gone to the big taxi rank in the sky. We tried everything to keep her going, but there was just too much wrong under the bonnet, and getting her roadworthy again was heading into four‑figure territory. Way beyond what I could justify — especially with a road tax of over £700 and insurance almost double that.
In the end, we had to scrap her. Watching her being lifted and taken away was more emotional than I expected. Massive thanks to Chris at McMeekins for picking her up and treating her with respect right to the very end.
Huge appreciation to the volunteers who helped out, and the mechanics who patched her up and got her roadworthy the first time around. Without them, she’d never have made it onto the road, never mind become what she did.
So this is us saying goodbye to what we think was the world’s first Gig In A Cab. A daft idea that somehow worked — thanks to every musician who squeezed in, every business who backed us, every volunteer who pitched in, and everyone who ever jumped in for a tune.
And to everyone who donated to the Tommy Quinn Neuroblastoma Fund — thank you. Your support kept the wheels turning in more ways than one.
The cab might be gone… but don’t get too comfy. Gig In A Cab might just make a comeback next year. We’re already keeping an eye out for a new taxi with a bit of character — something worthy of carrying the tunes again.
This isn’t the end. It’s just the interval.
