HEARTH is a monthly makers circle where we provide a welcoming sheltered outdoor space with resources, close to nature, to allow you to reconnect with your creativity and the generative warmth of a communal fire. It is held on the first Saturday of the month in .

Last Saturday at The Hearth we gathered with from and .o.kelly who told us the Scottish story of the Spritely Seamstress originating from Saddel Castle.

We considered how the seamstress protected herself by ritualising her intentions before she started her work, and we played with words to create our own charms against distraction, tech, things that are bigger than us that we can't control, and also blessed some future ice cream. Sophie led the second part with offerings of wooden slices, sticks string and other bits to make our charms physical.

Our next session on Saturday 4th of April is 'Make & Mark' with Robert from where we'll be exploring leathercraft skills of embossing, dots, stipples, hole punches, stitching, dyeing - this is an intro to the many things you can make with leather. You'll get to have a go and take home your own decorated square.

And on Saturday 6th May we'll be burning, blowing, charring and shaping your own wooden bowl with the guidance of Marwen

Flyer attached. If you'd like to join any of the Hearth sessions, email [email protected] - or join our Whatsapp group for more info.

🔥 We light the fire at the Hearth again this Saturday and would love you with us.

As the returning sun gathers strength, we gather too — to make, to share stories, to warm hands and hearts around the flames.

Saturday 7th March – WOOD / WORDS
With storyteller Naomi O'Kelly

What can our natural folk craft rituals bring to our relationship with our tech? We’ll play and create small charms from wood, cordage and found natural objects — exploring what nature might offer our screen-tangled lives.

Saturday 4th April – LEATHER / MARK
With Robert of Touchwood

An introduction to leathercraft: embossing, stippling, hole punches, stitching and dyeing. Make and decorate your own leather square to take home.
(Robert’s session is now full, but we’ll also have soft leather and braiding to make pouches — message if you’d like a space.)

🔥 Fire lit at 1pm
🌿 Close around 4pm
📍 The Quad (entrance via the lane next to 273 Kenmure Street or 248 Darnley Street)
🚗 Limited parking — please don’t park in the lane
☕ Bring a mug + camping chair if you like (we’ll have spares)
🚻 No toilets onsite — nearest public loos at Pollokshields Library

If you haven’t already booked, email [email protected] to join us.

Blessings of the returning sun 🌞

After January’s hibernation, we’ve been gently sticking a soggy toe back into the woods… and just like the snowdrops, everything has popped up at once.

At The Den (5–8s) we welcomed new families, exploring the woods, new materials and stories with big imagination. excited to have Dani from join the team.

At The Nest (9–12s) we saw masks gifted, traitor-style games unfolding in the trees, primitive tech explorations and marshmallows toasted over flame.

At The Hearth, we explored Imbolc — its origins, meanings and how we might relate to it authentically as urban folk. Rush Brigid crosses and woven willow bird feeders took shape, all held so skillfully by Sophie from

Our Youth Group gathered for week two of our fire skills block at the yard in where the ancient craft of the pizza oven 😉 was taken very seriously.

Our newly updated website is now live — links in bio to all projects.

Spaces are still available at The Den — get in touch if you’d like to join us.

🌿 Now welcoming new families to The Den 🌿

The Den is our outdoor woodland group for younger children — a calm, nurturing space where children can explore, play, and connect with nature at their own pace.

Through seasonal outdoor play, storytelling, simple fire activities, craft, and plenty of free exploration, children build confidence, resilience, and a deep sense of belonging in the natural world.

✨ Small, supportive group
✨ Experienced and caring leaders
✨ Outdoors in all seasons

If you’re looking for a slower, nature-rich alternative for your child, The Den might be a lovely fit.

Really enjoyed Hearth last weekend East Pollokshields Quad with Sophie from Glasgow Forest Schools and Dani MacDonald!

We got to share in their creativity and playfulness, exploring different materials and techniques. Highlights included making nature zines, creating charcoal from willow, dogwood, and hazel, and (perhaps my favourite) trying out bamboo pens for ink. Hands busy, minds wandering, and plenty of good chat along the way.

More events are coming up — 1–4pm, first Saturday of the month, at the Quad.

FREE to attend thanks to funding from The National Lottery but limited, so be sure to sign up in advance, email [email protected], more info on our website : www.wearewonder.org/the-hearth

As the year comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to celebrate what’s been growing.

This year we became a Forest School Association Recognised Forest School Provider - something we’re really proud of. By aligning with the six principles of Forest School, we’re honoured to support the FSA vision of quality Forest School for all, encouraging, sharing and inspiring meaningful connections with nature.

Our regular forest school sessions at The Den and The Nest have continued steadily through the seasons, rooted in play, relationship and place.

Our Monthly Maker sessions, The Hearth, at East Pollokshields Quad, in collaboration with Glasgow Forest School, have seen folk whittling and making wreaths around the fire together.

Starting in February 2026, in collaboration with the wonderful folks at Rumpus Room, we’ll be launching a group for 12–16s: a 7-week course called ‘IGNITE’ in fire skills and outdoor craft. More details and sign-ups will follow soon.

Looking ahead, much of what we love continues into 2026, but for now we’re heading into a short winter hibernation — time to rest, reflect and be quiet for a while.

Heartfelt thanks to our crew, community, collaborators, funders, families, and young people — we couldn’t do this without you.
