A Big Thank you to all the volunteers who turned up at Bellahouston woods, Glasgow last Sunday to show our site some love and take part in some woodland management.

We were bowled over by your support and so happy to spend the day helping repair some of the damage caused by fires in the woodland over the summer months.

Huge thanks to everyone who came along, as well as to Volunteer Glasgow, the wonderful park rangers, and the wider We Are Wonder community for making the day possible.

We love this woodland and feel incredibly fortunate to be able to run our Forest School Association accredited sessions here.

Back to the Woods! 🌿🔥

Our Outdoor Youth Group is back!

Join us on Tuesday 18 August, 4pm-6pm, for an afternoon of playful creativity, outdoor skills, crafting, games, campfire chat and connection in nature.

What The Heck is A Corn Dolly?

Long before they became decorative objects, corn dollies were woven in grain-growing communities across Britain and beyond to celebrate the harvest, honour the spirit of the grain, and carry hopes for the seasons to come.

Join artist and maker Gina Lundy for an afternoon exploring the 'art, history and mystery of corn dollies' a phrase borrowed from Minnie Lambeth's classic 1969 book A Golden Dolly.

Together we'll begin with one of the oldest forms of corn dolly, the Harvest Favour, learning traditional 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7-strand plaits before weaving your own to take home.

We'll be working with beautiful heritage long straw grown and prepared by Rosemary Sault of Simply Straw. From sorting and soaking the straw to the finished weave, every stage of the process connects us to generations of makers who transformed a humble cereal crop into something both beautiful and meaningful.

No experience is needed - just curiosity and a willingness to slow down and make.

We're so excited to share this! Gina will be leading two Cordage Making Workshops at the Scottish Maritime Museum with Keep Scotland Beautiful in Irvine on August 5th — and both sessions are already fully booked, which is wonderful!

We're busy preparing — out harvesting plant fibres, drying and getting everything ready for what we hope will be a really lovely day of making and nature connection at the museum.

If you missed out this time, do keep an eye on our page — we'd love to do more of this kind of thing. In the meantime, if you're in Irvine on August 5th, pop into the museum foyer and say hello 🌿

🌿 FREE Summer Sessions for Young People (11–16) 🌿

This July Weare Wonder and Rumpus Room are inviting young people aged 11–16 to join us for Bound to Wonder—two afternoons of creativity, nature and fire in Queen's Park, Glasgow.

Together we'll explore:
• Bookbinding
• Charcoal and natural pigment making
• Leather craft
• Fire skills
• Time to connect, create and enjoy being outdoors

🌿 FREE Workshop this Saturday — Cordage with Gina

Join us for THE HEARTH next Saturday 6th June, 1–4pm, for a free afternoon workshop in Govan exploring the ancient craft of cordage — twisting and weaving fibres from the plants around us into something beautiful and useful.

We'll be working with the gentle plants of early summer — dandelions, daffodils, and hopefully nettles — guided by the wonderful Gina. Stick around for nettle tea and pakoras too 🍵
