Our Chairperson Laura and her partner and fellow CSC Member Andy had a fabulous day celebrating their son Jayden’s 11th birthday yesterday!

Jayden got lots of great pressies from his family and friends, plus a trip to Grid Braehead where he won lots of prizes on the arcade games!

Then it was a slap up birthday meal in China Buffet King where the staff sang him Happy Birthday and he got his cake. 🎂😋
After the meal, it was a trip to the ten pin bowling, where the lovely staff gave him a goodie bag for his birthday.

Jayden is thriving and loving Primary 6 too. Happy Birthday Jayden from all of us at TAG, and all the best to his amazing parents who have done so much for both him and us over the years!

With Scottish Learning Disability Week fast approaching (from Monday 7th to Sunday 13th September), here are a full list of the events published so far from our friends at the Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities.

TAG are of course a charity run by and for people with learning disabilities, but not only this: many of our Members have physical disability, autism, neurodiversity, and more... but above all we are people with ABILITIES who aren't defined by our disability!

Nevertheless, SLDW is a great time of year in which to combat ableism and switch the focus to, and hear the voices of, people - like our TAG Members - who have so much to give. We commend the SCPLD for this!

SOLAR ECLIPSE 2026
A Wee Safety Guide For TAG Members

Lots of people will be watching the sun on Wednesday at 6:08pm to see the moon travel in front of it and darken the sky! This won’t be total darkness but nearly, at 91% for Glasgow, and 93% in Barra!

While this is fun and an amazing event, please be careful! If you would like to see the eclipse, please get a special pair of solar eclipse glasses. These can be bought online for around £6. But watch out for fakes! The glasses must have:

ISO 12312-2:2015(E) Certified

on them to make sure they are safe. If you buy them online, always check the rating and reviews too, to be extra-safe and sure.

Solar eclipse glasses can also be purchased at many shops and opticians, including Specsavers, Boots, independent opticians and even the Science Centre in Glasgow. Please DO NOT attempt to look at the sun without these special glasses, even when it is mostly covered, as you will damage your eyes and normal shades or sunglasses will NOT protect you!

Also, don’t reuse old glasses you may have as these may not be safe any more.

If you want to watch the eclipse, please make sure you get your solar eclipse glasses as soon as you can to beat the rush next week.

And above all, have a safe and happy viewing… let’s hope the clouds have a holiday on Wednesday!
