The Queen’s Park Spring Weekender by Melting Pot and OPTIMO is a fabulously joyous dance music festival. Each year it brings thousands of people to the park to enjoy the sunshine (or rain) but the weather doesn’t matter – it’s the music and the people that make it.
QPSW has always been generous in its support of local foodbanks and this year they became aware of QPG Food Bank and included us in that, making a fantastic donation.
We’d like to say a huge Thank You to Melting Pot and OPTIMO along with after party venues Sub Club, Marlborough and Cheetah and to everyone at QPSW who donated money at the box office.
Here’s ‘the main man’ Mark MacKechnie filling a bag with much needed food for one of our recipients.

Every week Locavore send us a box of apples and a box of bananas along with other produce if it’s available. Without their steadfast year round support our offer to the people who need this food would be poorer.
So, thank you Locavore we really appreciate what you do for us.

Since the church was used as a polling station, I used the opportunity last Thursday to leaflet people coming to vote with our ‘Could you give us a pound please’ flyers.
One man, a former soldier, said we were doing a great thing and talked about how some veterans suffer when discharged. He went on to say, “I know it’s the reality of this country, but it’s not what I fought for. You shouldn’t have to be doing this it’s the country that should be looking after people.
“Good on you for doing it though, I expect you get ex-servicemen coming here and I think that’s a disgrace that they need to. Thanks for helping them”

Another story to help you understand what you enable us to do…

“I lost my wife. She had cancer. I stopped working in the shop to look after her and now, I’m old too. We were very happy and made a good life in this country. Our daughter and her husband are very kind to me but they have their own life. This food is very important to me. Thank you. It’s a good thing you do here, God bless you.”

People's stories are a good way to help you understand what your donations enable us to do…

“When I came out of care I had to find my own accommodation and try to get a job. That was hard and I didn’t really make it. I’m studying horticulture now and I hope that I’ll get a job as a gardener – that’s what I’d like. Helping look after some big National Trust garden that grows food as well as having parks full of trees and ornamentals. I know it’s a dream, but it keeps me going. Oh, so does the food, by the way, so thanks to the Food Bank for that. I couldn't be studying without the support.”

Huge thanks to Locavore for their weekly donation of fresh fruit, and to our volunteers Frank and Christine for delivering it to us. We had 38 people visiting the foodbank this morning so it was greatly appreciated.

If you could give just one pound a week, it would really help to support the families and individuals in our area who need food. Because we’re a ‘non-referral’ Food Bank all our support comes from you, our donors - the costs are approaching £300 a week.

Some people are very loyal and give generously, and we thank them for it. If we could build a broader base of many more people giving even just a little it would ease the pressure on the people living with food insecurity in our area.

Please give £1 a week (£5 a month / £52 a year) or any amount you can.

At this very busy time of year we've been delighted that so many people have taken time to support the foodbank. We've had some wonderful donations of food and cash from many organisations and individuals from both within our community and further afield. To everyone who has donated, please accept our heartfelt thanks. You make such a difference to the lives of those in need.
The foodbank will be closed on Christmas Day but we will be back open on New Year's Day.
Wishing you all a happy and peaceful Christmas.
