Bonnetmakers & Dyers of Glasgow

Bonnetmakers & Dyers of Glasgow The Incorporation of Bonnetmakers and Dyers of Glasgow is a charity and forms part of the Trades House of Glasgow. Its registered charity number is SCO001872.

To apply for funding: https://www.tradeshouse.org.uk/crafts-bonnetmakers-dyers/ The Inc. of Bonnetmakers and Dyers of Glasgow is a charity based in Glasgow and is the youngest of the fourteen Crafts within the Trades House. The Craft is represented by Deacon Robert Linton this year from September 2020 for one year. In 1846 all the exclusive rights and privileges of trading that had been granted to

the combined Craft were swept away by the Recissory Act, but the Craft members decided not to wind-up the Craft but instead decided to channel the energy and enterprise of the Craft into the work of benevolence. Over the years the Craft has continued to attract members who are associated in, but not exclusively, some way with the textile and dyeing trades. Today the Craft's benevolence continues and considerable funds are distributed each year to the Craft's grantees. In addition the Craft also seeks to promote quality craftsmanship and trade education by awarding prizes each year to promising students at Stewarton Academy, Glasgow Kelvin College, City of Glasgow College, Glasgow School of Art, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian University and Heriot-Watt University. Further grants are considered by the Craft's Master Court on an individual basis.

Dear Members It has been a wee while since we last met up informally so I am proposing the above for any of you who would like to join my partner Stephen and me on Sunday 21st September. It's free (apart from whatever coffee you wish to buy) and there is a link to the Trades House and our Craft which we shall point out. The organ recital at 3pm is usually a great mix of music.

Kelvingrove Art Galleries for an informal visit plus the organ recital then hopefully a coffee afterwards in a cafe.

Sunday 21st September at 2pm

It has been a busy month for the Craft with School craft awards then Craftex itself which was absolutely amazing as always. Deacon Sheena was also invited to Glasgow College to help judge the performance arts costumes - there were stunning exhibits making final decisions difficult.
Then on Saturday 21st June Deacon Sheena & late Collector Margaret plus their partners, Stephen & Mervyn travelled to Stewarton for the Bonnetmakers Guild Gala Day. It was a super occasion and Deacon Sheena presented endeavour awards from our Craft to 6 school pupils who’d achieved so much this year.
Late Collector Margaret attended the Galashiels Graduation Day in mid June and also reported on what an exceptional occasion it was.
Our Master Court has also awards lots of money to many charities this month and more information for members will appear in the forthcoming newsletter.

A crowd of us visited the City Chambers of Glasgow on the 25th February and had a great private tour of the building. It was super to have Craft members and a few friends join us and afterwards a good number of us went on for coffee to the nearby Marriott. Our next members’ event is the Fascinator Evening when up to 20 members will be able to create their own masterpiece to wear! It’s on 12th March at 6.30pm in Trades Hall and costs £30. A group of us met socially on 19th January for a trip to the Glasgow Police Museum. The main connection is the vast collection of police hats from all over the world but it was a fascinating afternoon followed by coffee. Please join us for our next trip to the City Chambers - details will be sent shortly to members.
