Why do people volunteer with BCDC?

As part of Volunteers' Week, we asked some of our wonderful volunteers to share why they chose to volunteer with BCDC.

Their answers reflect the many benefits of volunteering – from making new friends and giving back to the community, to building confidence, learning new skills, and finding a real sense of purpose.

Every volunteer has their own reason for getting involved, but they all share one thing in common: they make a positive difference to the lives of others every day.

🌟 Volunteers' Week 2026 | 1st – 7th June 🌟

This week, we celebrated our incredible volunteers who give their time, energy, skills, and kindness to support our community every day.

From helping support community events to day to day projects their dedication makes a real difference to the people and communities we serve.

A huge THANK YOU to every one of our fabulous volunteers. Your commitment, compassion, and enthusiasm inspire us all, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do. 💜

If you've ever thought about volunteering, there's never been a better time to get involved. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or a few hours a month, we'd love to hear from you.

Together, we're building stronger, more connected communities. 💙

Some photos of the surrounding area, a post from . Here is what he had to say:
"My mum would take a full time job at Stobhill which would include shift work. No longer was the Saturday shopping trip a guarantee. Saturdays became a trip of a different kind with my dad Jackie.
We would get dressed and head up Broomfield Rd, past the red ash football pitches filled with various teams. I’d finished my game with the school or BB. We would walk past the Bundy shops, past the park, and towards the golf course. Our first stop was the Cairn Bar. My dad would always have to make a phone call! There was an upside though, it allowed me to sit on the wall and people watch. A pastime I love to this day. There were loads of golfers around.
After the phone call! we would set out for our next destination in Auchinairn, the Auchinairn Tavern where another phone call had to be made. It was not a bad place to watch folk!
We were off again and my dad was quickening his pace, past the back of Springburn Park and down Balgrayhill. The next stop, this time for the toilet was Thomsons Bar. It was cold and dark around here as it was always in the the shade.
My dad is starting to talk to me now, muttering this and that. We crossed the Springburn Road and stopped off at the Bells then Haven Bar. This place was a hive of activity and there were loads of distractions for me. The final stop on our now lengthy tour was the Kerry Inn. My dad was now not making sense and he slowed his pace with the odd sway along the way. That was the end of our journey and it was usually the bus home. Same trip, same stops, same phone calls."
