Twechar Community Action is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status which was formed in 2001 as a response to the closure of the recreation centre in Twechar owned and operated by East Dunbartonshire Council. Twechar Community Action has been managing and operating the centre since April 2001. The company therefore has its origins in the action of local people to retain one of the few facilities and amenities in the village
