Could you give a young person with disabilities a better Monday night?

Glasgow Disabled Scouts needs new volunteers.

We are King’s Award-winning, volunteer-led, and the only Scout Group in Scotland dedicated specifically to young people with disabilities.

But we need more people to help young people take part, build confidence, make friends and feel they belong.

You do not need Scouting experience.
You do not need to be an expert.
You just need to be reliable, positive and willing to get involved.

A couple of hours on a Monday evening could make a serious difference.

While we are missing Scouts this evening, we thought we’d share a wee throwback to last year’s Summer Camp.

Summer Camp 2025 – Legions of Adventure was one of those weeks that had everything. For a full week in July, Ratlingate became ancient Rome, with tents turned into barracks, patrols becoming legions, and our young people throwing themselves into every part of camp.

From arrival day and the first campfire, right through to offsite trips, wide games, patrol stunts, the James Lawrie Shield, Roman battle day, rockets, campfires and the final festival evening, it was a week packed with adventure, laughter and memories that will stick for a long time. There were muddy battles, homemade togas, BBQs, patrol films, songs round the fire and plenty of moments that summed up exactly what summer camp is all about.

By the end of the week, Octavian Patrol lifted the James Lawrie Shield and Aurelius Patrol claimed the overall camp title after a strong finish. More than anything though, Summer Camp 2025 was another reminder of just how much these young people can do when given the space, support and opportunity to take part in real adventure.

A cracking week from start to finish.

Fantastic weekend camp at the Lodge with our Scouts section.

From archery sessions and outdoor skills to creative activities and time around the fire, the weekend was packed with opportunities for young people to try new things, build confidence and enjoy being part of a team.

For many of our Scouts, weekends like this are about more than just activities. They’re about independence, inclusion and creating experiences that are accessible to everyone.

A big thank you to our volunteers who make this possible week in, week out.

Monday Night at GDS 🔥

Another strong session across the group this week with loads happening in every section.
Our Network section got stuck into building their own DIY crazy golf course. Proper hands-on from start to finish, designing it, setting it up, and then putting it to the test.

At the same time, Scouts and Explorers were right into a mix of activities including Floor is Lava, handball, bocce and a few debates.

We’re looking to build links with teacher training courses across Glasgow and the West

At Glasgow Disabled Scouts, we’ve always had strong connections with people coming through PGDE and other education routes.

Many of our volunteers come from this background – gaining vital hands-on experience while also giving something back.

We work with young people with additional support needs, supporting them to build confidence, develop skills and be part of something that genuinely matters.

We’re now looking to strengthen those links.

If you’re a lecturer, course leader, placement coordinator, or connected to any teacher training programmes, I’d be keen to have a conversation.

Or if you know someone we should be speaking to, a quick introduction would go a long way.

Or send us a message directly.

Some young people need a little extra support to experience adventure.

At Glasgow Disabled Scouts we support young people to experience everything Scouting should be about, friendship, confidence, adventure and independence.

We’re looking for volunteers to join our team and help run activities, support young people and make our weekly sessions possible.

Most volunteers give around one evening a week.

Training, support and a great team are all part of the package.

If you want to do something meaningful in your community, we’d love to hear from you.
