🌦️ Adventure #003 Weather Update

A few of you have messaged asking about the weather forecast for our Meikle Bin adventure on Saturday 8th August.

At the moment, it's looking a little unsettled, but as we all know, Scottish weather can change quickly!

I'll keep a close eye on the forecast over the next couple of days and make a final decision by Friday morning.

As this is our longest walk so far and our first summit together, I'd rather wait and give us the best chance of enjoying the views and making the most of the adventure.

If the forecast is still looking the same on Friday, I'll postpone the walk and announce a new date. If it improves, we'll be lacing up our boots and heading for the summit! 🥾⛰️

🏔️ MAWS & MUNROS | ADVENTURE #003

Our First Summit – Meikle Bin

After two brilliant adventures together, it's time for something a little bigger...

Join us on Saturday 8th August as we take on our first summit as a community.

Meikle Bin is one of Central Scotland's best-loved family hills, offering incredible views, wide forestry tracks and that amazing feeling of reaching the top together.

This will be our longest adventure so far, covering approximately 10km with around 400m of ascent. It's a steady climb rather than a technical one, but it is a bigger challenge than our previous walks.

This walk is carrier-friendly rather than buggy-friendly.

If you're bringing a toddler or younger child, we strongly recommend bringing a baby/toddler carrier. While every child is different, this distance and ascent are likely to be too much for most little legs to walk comfortably.

Please only book if you feel this adventure is suitable for you and your family. There will be plenty more shorter walks throughout the year, so don't worry if this one isn't the right fit.

💜 Adventure #002 ✔️

What a brilliant morning!

It might not have gone exactly as planned, but that's all part of exploring together. We discovered that one of the planned paths was closed, another was much steeper than expected in the dry conditions, and the midges & horsefly definitely made themselves known! 😂

But despite all that...

The children threw stones in the water, climbed on rocks, completed their Little Explorer Challenges, enjoyed plenty of snacks, and made new friends. We finished with coffee, cake and lots of chatting, and that's exactly what Maws & Munros is all about.

Every adventure teaches us something. This one reminded me how important it is to check routes, think about how the weather changes the terrain, and maybe pack a little more insect repellent next time!

The biggest thing I've taken away from today, though, is that this isn't my community - it's ours.

I honestly didn't expect such an incredible response to Maws & Munros. Thank you so much to everyone who's liked, shared, commented and sent messages over the last few days. It's been amazing to see so many people excited about getting outdoors together with their little ones. 💜

With so much interest in Adventure #002 - Campsie Glen, I've decided to add an Adventure Sign-Up. This isn't because it's a formal event - I'd simply like a rough idea of numbers so I can make sure there's enough parking for everyone and know who to expect on the day.

Hi, I'm Clare 👋

I'm the face behind Maws & Munros.

After becoming a mum to my little boy, I found myself wanting to get outdoors more. I love being in the hills and exploring Scotland, but I also realised it can feel quite daunting doing it on your own with a little one.

That's where the idea for Maws & Munros came from.

I wanted to create a relaxed community where mums (and dads, grandparents, friends – everyone is welcome!) could meet up, get outside and explore together.

This isn't about racing to the top of mountains or ticking Munros off a list.
It's about muddy boots, fresh air, little adventures and making memories with our children.

Some adventures might be hills, others might be waterfalls, woodland trails or hidden lochs. We'll stop for snacks, let little legs set the pace and never worry about how fast we're going.

Our very first adventure was just me and my son, Iggy.

Did I wish more people had come? Of course.

But honestly, we had the best morning. We spotted birds, watched planes overhead, climbed rocks, got muddy, enjoyed snacks with a view and he fell asleep in the carrier on the way back. It reminded me exactly why I started this.

If Maws & Munros becomes a place where even a handful of families make new friends, discover places they wouldn't have visited otherwise and create memories together, then it'll be everything I'd hoped for.

🥾 Adventure #002 is here!

Our next Maws & Munros adventure is taking us to the beautiful Campsie Glen.

This time we'll be swapping hilltops for waterfalls as we explore woodland trails, cross little bridges, follow the burn and discover one of the Campsies' hidden gems.

This is a relaxed, family-friendly walk designed for babies in carriers, little explorers on foot and anyone who enjoys getting outdoors at a gentle pace. We'll take plenty of stops, enjoy some summit snacks (well... waterfall snacks this time! 😉) and let the children set the pace.

If you've been thinking about coming along for your first adventure, we'd love to see you.

🥾 Adventure #001 – The Whangie 🥾

Today was the very first Maws & Munros adventure.

In the end, it was just me and Iggy… and honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better day.

We spent the morning exploring together, taking in the views, spotting planes overhead, watching birdies, climbing over rocks, splashing through puddles and, of course, finding plenty of mud! 🌿✈️

There was lots of laughing, lots of snacks (very important 😅), and by the walk back to the car, someone was fast asleep after a morning full of adventure.

Today reminded me exactly why I started Maws & Munros.

Not for numbers.
Not for summits.
But for moments like these.

For getting outside.
For slowing down.
For giving our little ones the chance to experience Scotland's incredible outdoors.

Every community starts somewhere, and today was our beginning.

Here's to Adventure #001... and hopefully many more to come.
