It was fantastic to see such a great turnout at our All in Glasgow – Progress for Parents event at Dumbreck Playbarn last week!

The event brought parents together to connect, share experiences, and learn more about the wide range of support available through our partnership. It was also wonderful to reconnect with parents who have previously engaged with our service and welcome them back.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and to all of our partners for their continued support. Together, we're building stronger connections, empowering parents, and helping families access the support they need to thrive.

Caring for a New Future: From Experience to Employment

After relocating from Nigeria to Scotland, Godbless was keen to continue her career in care. Although she brought valuable experience as a hospital assistant, adjusting to a new country and understanding the requirements of Scotland's care sector presented challenges to finding employment.

Working with her Employment Coordinator at Enable Works, Godbless received tailored support to help her re-enter the workforce. She joined the Care Academy through Training for Work, gaining sector-specific training, qualifications and a better understanding of the Scottish care sector. She also received support with CV development, job applications, interview preparation, welfare advice, and travel training, helping her access employment opportunities with confidence.

Godbless's determination and commitment quickly stood out. With the right support in place, she secured a role with Clarence Court Care Home and has now sustained employment for more than a year. She continues to thrive in her role, using her skills and experience to make a positive difference while building a successful new life in Scotland.

Throughout her journey, Enable Works has continued to provide tailored support to both Godbless and her employer, helping her sustain and progress in work.

Levelling Up: Stuart's Journey into Gaming

Stuart joined Enable Works facing significant barriers to employment, including anxiety, depression, low confidence, and limited work experience. Although he had studied game development at college, he struggled to see a pathway into the industry.

Through tailored one-to-one support from his Employment Coordinator on Disability & Health, Stuart built his confidence, skills, and experience. Through the All in Glasgow Partnership, he completed Generations -AWS Data Analytics programme through Training for Work, gaining a recognised qualification.

Working with local game development company Focus Games, Stuart’s Employment Coordinator secured him a work experience opportunity. Recognising his potential, this developed into a paid six-month placement aligned to his skills and career goals.

Stuart excelled in the role and became a valued member of the team. With continued support from his employer and Enable Works, he secured a permanent contract in the industry he is passionate about.

Since gaining employment, Stuart has achieved greater financial stability and independence, enabling him to move out of his parents’ home and enjoy new opportunities.

Stuart said:

“I’ve come so far since joining Enable Works. I’m really enjoying my time at Focus Games and can’t believe it’s been one year next week. I’ve moved out of my parents home and booked a holiday to Berlin.”

Stuart's journey demonstrates the impact of the All in Glasgow partnership's "no wrong door" approach, helping people overcome barriers and access the right support at the right time to achieve sustainable employment.
