The OMRS Kent Branch recently staged an engaging display at a local beating retreat, turning the evening into a lively meeting point for anyone with an interest in military history and medal collecting. Throughout the event, a steady stream of visitors stopped to talk with members, learn about the society’s work, and examine a selection of medals brought along for the occasion. Conversations ranged from the stories behind individual decorations to broader discussions about collecting, preservation, and research.
A highlight of the night came when The Mayor of Medway, Douglas Hamandishe, and The Lady Colgrain, The Lord Lieutenant of Kent, visited the stand. Both took time to speak with members, ask about the awards on display, and show genuine interest in the history represented by each medal. Their presence added a sense of recognition and civic pride to the event, underscoring the value of sharing military heritage with the wider community.
