Gillingham Rotary

Gillingham Rotary Rotary Club of Gillingham, is a group of local men and women in the Gillingham area. The movement slowly grew and they began helping local people.

Rotary was started in 1905 by a Paul Harris and two of his attorney friends in Chicago. Today there are 1.2 million members in 120 Countries all linked back to Rotary International in the USA. All Rotary Clubs are organised independently. Gillingham currently has 18 members who meet on a Wednesday at the Olive Bowl, each month we have speaker and invite guests. We raise money to help people and th

e local communities. We participate in various sports against other Rotary Clubs, Social events are organised on a regular basis. Events such as Burns Night, Duck Race, Race Night and Quiz Evenings are held to raise funds. We have many requests for help and each one is considered before committing time and resources. Locally we have supported, Salisbury Hospital Stars Appeal, A local Student who worked in Africa teaching, Birthing chambers in Nepal, Shoeboxes and Tools for self Reliance. We helped a lady with MS raising funds to purchase a specially adapted car to take her mobility scooter and another lady who needed a specialist wheel chair to enable her to carry out her work. We support local Schools. Rotary organise Youth Competitions. Youth Speaks , Young Musician of the year, Young Photographer of the year, Young Chef of the year and Young Engineer of the Year (the National competition for which was won by four boys from Gillingham School)

Anyone who helps with or at an event organised by Rotary will be covered by our insurance. All administration costs are covered by the Rotarians
