Cats In Distress Rescue, rehabilitation & rehoming cats & kittens in need, (and often helping people as well). This is the public page for Cats In Distress.

It is primarily used to alert people to cats & kittens that might have gone missing, have been found or are in need of assistance. Our other page, Friends of Cats In Distress, is a private group for anyone interested in finding out more about our work. Our private group allows us to share more information about often sensitive stories, also highlighting the cats & kittens available for ad

option. Previous adopters can privately share photos and stories with other supporters of the charity; a feel good page with lots of heart warming stories. Cats In Distress was established in May 2016 and now helps over 400 cats a year. Run by Trustees and a team of volunteers, the charity is run from a purpose built rescue centre. The centre is built around a central enclosed garden and provides 7 spacious pens, 2 maternity units and an isolation pen. In addition, we have 8 outdoor units, and 14 fosterers, providing loving home to home care, for everything from new born kittens to golden oldies. All our cats & kittens are assessed and health checked, with any required treatments being carried out prior to adoption. They are all treated for parasites, neutered, (or a neutering voucher provided for kittens), microchipped, FULLY vaccinated and have 5 weeks free insurance. As well as traditional "rehoming" we are able to help with neutering costs, and in certain circumstances we can help with vets fees, (Ts& Cs apply). In addition, we try and ensure we have one long term foster space available for those emergency situations where an owned cat needs a temporary home. As much as we love cats, we realise there are just too many. Educating the public about the importance of neutering, our working cat team, not only work with farms & stables to neuter feral colonies but also conduct trap, neuter release programmes. We will never judge. Compassion for all, whether animals or people is and always will be at the heart of what we do. We don’t know what problems people are having to deal with in their lives; eviction, death, financial difficulties, cats arrive with us for a multitude of reasons. When calling us, we will do our very best to help. We pride ourselves on responding quickly and efficiently to enquiries. We aim to respond to general enquiries within 48 hours, normally a lot quicker, enquiries for rehoming are often answered within 6 hours. Visits to meet our cats can be arranged within 24 hours, with a subsequent home check carried out within 48 hours. From an initial enquiry to rehoming it can take as little as a weekend for a cat to be successfully rehomed. That’s not to say we rush things, we just believe in getting things done. We are passionate about all cats and work long hours providing help where & when its needed.

We’re honestly so surprised gorgeous Lumos hasn’t had more interest already 🤍

Lumos is a stunning 7-year-old silver tabby British Shorthair with a calm, affectionate and easy-going nature. She’s a lovely companion to have around — relaxed, friendly and happy simply enjoying a peaceful home and good company.

Lumos could potentially live with one proven cat-friendly cat or dog only and respectful children aged 5+. She would be happiest in a calmer household environment.

Due to her breed and the higher risk of pedigree cats being stolen, Lumos is looking for an indoor-only home. She would absolutely love a secure catio, protected garden, or a spacious indoor home where she can relax safely and comfortably.

Lucie is a lovely little Persian girl and very much a “Persian Persian” in every sense, so we are really hoping to find a home with someone who understands the breed or has some experience with Persians already.
She will need lifelong grooming, daily brushing, and regular eye and face cleaning to keep her comfortable and healthy.

She has the funniest little expression and almost always has her tiny tongue sticking out, which only adds to her charm.

Lucie came to us needing quite a bit of TLC after originally being rescued from being kept in a cage. Since arriving with us she has had a dental with 7 teeth removed, along with a shave to help with severe matting. She is now feeling much brighter and ready for her fresh start.

She gets on fine with other cats but prefers calm companions and would also be happy as an only pet. She could potentially be rehomed with her friend Mariah.

Lucie has never been outdoors and should remain an indoor only cat, although a safe catio or secure enclosed garden would be a lovely bonus.

This little princess deserves a calm, loving home where she will be cherished and spoiled like she deserves.

Gary 💛

Gary is another stray story that really highlights the importance of neutering cats. Neutering greatly reduces the number of unneutered males roaming, getting lost, injured, or ending up feeling sorry for themselves and alone. It is one of the biggest ways people can help reduce pressure on cat rescues.

Gary is a lovely boy. He was a little shy and reserved at first, seeming tired and in need of some rest, good food, and TLC. He arrived with poorly eyes, but has been incredibly well behaved while having his eye drops.

His initial health checks are all looking positive, including good teeth. He is now neutered and has had his first vaccination.

He’s a quiet, gentle lad who clearly wants affection, but is still a little shy about asking for it. He will need a patient, understanding home. He is likely quite young, no more than 2.

Come and meet Diego at our Summer Fair! 🐾

This gorgeous Maine C**n LOVES attention and is very happy and confident in public spaces — he enjoys being out and about and is comfortable on a lead.

Every cat is an individual, and while this environment wouldn’t suit all cats, Diego genuinely thrives on the fuss and attention ❤️ His wellbeing will always come first.

Happy Tails from May 🐾

➡️ 32 cats in
⬅️ 27 cats out

Here’s just a small selection of the lovely cats who were adopted or reserved last month!

Every adoption means another cat gets a chance at safety, care, and a fresh start, and we’re so grateful to everyone who has supported the rescue, shared posts, fostered, donated, or opened their homes.

Let’s see what June brings! 🐱✨

Do you know a business who may be able to donate a raffle prize? 🐾

As part of our 10 year celebration and community fundraising event on Saturday 13th June, we are looking for raffle prizes to help raise funds for cats in distress.

We would love vouchers, experiences, gift sets, hampers, tickets, treatments or anything else our supporters would enjoy winning!

If you own a business — or know somebody who does — and may be able to help, please get in touch or tag them below.

Every donation helps us continue rescuing, rehabilitating and caring for vulnerable cats.

Our upcoming fair is just around the corner, and we’d love your help to make this year’s raffle amazing!

We’re looking for raffle prize donations from our wonderful community — whether it’s a gift set, voucher, hamper, bottle, experience, or something unique, every prize makes a huge difference and helps support our event.

If you or your business would like to donate a raffle prize, please drop comment below and we will be in touch.

Thank you so much for supporting our rescue — we truly appreciate every contribution! 😻

🐾 Cat of the Week: Rory 🐾

Rory is now ready to find his forever home.

Estimated to be around 4 years old, Rory is believed to have been a long-term stray. He arrived with no microchip, unneutered, and despite efforts, no owner came forward for him.

He’s a gentle but cautious boy, still learning that he’s safe. Although he can flinch at touch at times, he’s grown so much in confidence and is becoming more curious about the world around him. You’ll often find him stretched out on the floor quietly watching everything going on.

Rory is currently in foster care with the wonderful Lenny, where he’s shown just how affectionate he can be once he trusts you. He slowly got used to being brushed, chin scratches, ear massages, loud purrs, and rolling over for tummy rubs.

He’s never shown aggression, but he will need patient owners willing to let him settle at his own pace. Rory would suit a calm, quieter home without young children, with cosy spaces where he can relax and unwind.

He’s not particularly playful, but he does enjoy gentle company and affection, just not constant fuss. And yes, his favourite treat is Lik-e-Lix.

📍 Rory is currently in foster in Westbury, Wiltshire.
