The Fund to Leave is still open for women in our area experiencing domestic abuse.

The fund can help women who need financial support to leave an abusive relationship safely or remain safely in their own home after an abusive partner has left.

Financial barriers are one of the biggest reasons women feel trapped in abusive relationships. Support like this can make a real difference at a critical time.

If you would like more information or want to find out if you may be eligible, please get in touch with us confidentially.

Congratulations to the women who have recently completed our Own My Life course.

Over the past few weeks, they have taken time to learn more about domestic abuse, explore the impact it can have on their lives, and build knowledge, confidence and understanding alongside others with similar experiences.

Completing the course is a significant achievement, and we would like to recognise the commitment, courage and determination shown by everyone who took part.

If you want read more about Own My life you can read our blog here:

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. We wish you all the very best for the future.

When people think about domestic abuse, they don't always think about the additional barriers faced by those living in rural communities.

For some survivors, asking for help can mean navigating limited public transport, poor phone signal, long distances, isolation, and concerns about privacy in close-knit communities.

These barriers can make it harder to reach out, but support is available.

Domestic abuse can happen anywhere. Accessing support should not depend on where someone lives.

Volunteers' Week – Thank You to Our Board Members

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our Board of Directors.

Our board members generously give their time, skills and experience to help guide and support Lochaber Women’s Aid. Their commitment behind the scenes plays a vital role in ensuring we can continue providing high-quality support to women, children and young people across Lochaber.

They attend meetings, contribute their expertise, help shape the future of the organisation and share our passion for creating safer lives and stronger communities.

We are incredibly grateful for their dedication, support and belief in the work we do.

A huge thank you to the organisers and participants of the Devil o' the Highlands Footrace for their generous donation to Lochaber Women’s Aid.

We are incredibly grateful to be chosen as one of the charities supported by this year’s event. Donations like this help us continue providing practical and emotional support to women and children affected by domestic abuse across Lochaber.

Thank you for supporting our work and helping us continue to be there for those who need us most.

We hope everyone involved had a fantastic day, although we are quite happy supporting from the side lines rather than running through the Highlands ourselves.

Living in a rural area can make domestic abuse harder to talk about.
Survivors may worry about gossip, judgement, not being believed, or bumping into the person harming them at the shop, school or petrol station.

Isolation is not just about distance. Sometimes it is about feeling there is nowhere safe to turn.

At Lochaber Women’s Aid, support is confidential, non-judgemental and available whether you are ready to make big changes or simply want someone to talk to.

“He’s so nice though.”

One of the most common myths around domestic abuse is the belief that abusive people must seem aggressive or unpleasant all the time. In reality, many abusive people are charming, funny, sociable and well-liked in public.

Someone can appear kind to friends, neighbours or colleagues while behaving very differently behind closed doors.

This can make survivors feel isolated, doubted and frightened that nobody will believe them.

Domestic abuse is not defined by how someone behaves in public. It is defined by how someone treats their partner in private.

Public charm does not cancel private harm.
