Mairsinn (formally RANS, ritual abuse network Scotland) is a charity (No.SC033706) based in Scotland providing support for survivors of organised and ritualised abuse and for those struggling with a dissociative disorder

31/03/2026

Eighteen And Under (charity no. SC026688) is carrying out research into technology-assisted abuse and are seeking participants (aged 18 or over) who are survivors of this and might be interested in contributing. Centering survivor voices is essential to designing prevention and intervention strategies that genuinely protect children. This research will contribute insight into factors that shape children’s safety and willingness to seek help. The findings can inform best-practice, child-protection training programs, and safer online environments that respond effectively to the realities of modern abuse. Ethical approval has been granted for this research.

📝Survivors Survey 📝

Mairsinn is a charity providing support and information to survivors of extreme or ritual abuse and people suffering from dissociative conditions caused by childhood trauma. We are developing and pilotting online peer support groups for survivors of childhood abuse who are struggling to access mental health services but firstly we wish to use an anonymous survey to consult with survivors to get their thoughts and views. This will help to shape the services we provide.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could consider completing the survey and/or sharing the link to our survey with survivors as widely as you think appropriate. Please find the link to the survey below.

If you have any questions please email [email protected]

Thank you, Mairsinn

You may have noticed that our name has changed. A wee while back now our charity had a shift in who we support by adding in support for people who have a dissociative condition following childhood trauma rather than solely people who have been through ritualised/organised abuse. We also wanted our name to be more inclusive as although based in Scotland we support people all over the uk. Our former name Ritual Abuse Network Scotland (rans) didn’t quite cover that so we came up with the name Mairsinn which is a Gaelic word meaning survival

The Christmas period is often very difficult for those who are struggling with mental illness, it can be a time where people are under even more pressure to be 'fine' and lots of mental health services shut, sometimes for many days leaving people without their usual support.
Those struggling with mental health problems are more likely to be facing poverty too so warmth and access to good nutrition may not be something they are welcomed with on Christmas day like many of us are.
Local charities and services often offer a free hot meal or can give out food for you cook yourself. Don't be afraid to reach out for help if you're able to and are struggling to afford to eat.

If you know someone who is struggling with their mental health, try reaching out to them over Christmas, a simple message can make a huge difference to someone.

There are services in the UK open over Christmas (including us) which you can contact if you're in need of support.
Included below is a link to the mind website which has a helpful list of services available over Christmas for lots of different kinds of support.

Christmas is a time of year that lots of people look forward to and it brings a lot of joy but for others it can be a time which is extremely difficult. Survivors of abuse can find particular dates really difficult and often services are shut and their usual go to supports are busier than usual.
If you are a survivor and are struggling this time of year you can reach us through our website or by sending a private message on Facebook
