🎶 Musical Director Wanted – Hyde Band 🎶

Hyde Band is seeking an inspiring and enthusiastic Musical Director to lead us into our next exciting chapter.

We are a friendly, ambitious First Section brass band with a proud heritage and a strong commitment to musical excellence. Based in our brand-new band hall in Hampshire, we perform a varied programme of concerts throughout the year and regularly compete in contests.

We’re looking for a conductor who can:
🎵 Lead rehearsals and performances with passion and professionalism
🎵 Inspire and motivate players across all sections
🎵 Help shape the band’s future musical direction and contest preparation
🎵 Build on our existing success while bringing fresh ideas and energy

📍 Rehearsals: Monday & Thursday evenings, 8.00pm – 10.00pm
📍 Location: Hampshire, BH24 3NN

Following the sad loss of John Lyon as the band’s President, we are delighted to announce that Mr Stephen Gilbert, Vice President and former playing member of the band, has graciously accepted the role of President.

Stephen has been a long-standing supporter of the band and has remained closely involved over many years, always offering encouragement and support whenever needed. As a former playing member, he has a deep understanding of the traditions, values, and community spirit that are such an important part of the organisation.

An archival photograph of Stephen during his playing days with the band serves as a reminder of his long association and commitment. His years as a playing member, together with his continued support in more recent times, make him a fitting and highly valued choice as the band’s new President.

We are honoured and delighted to welcome Stephen into this role and look forward to his continued support, guidance, and involvement with the band for many years to come.

Today we said a final goodbye to our long-standing President, Mr John Lyon. John lived a long and very full life, filled with joy and happiness, and we were incredibly fortunate to have had him as President of our band for so many years.

John loved the band dearly, and even when he wasn’t feeling so well last year, his passion for the band never faded. In one very special moment, the band descended on his home and performed a short concert in his garden for him. You could see just how much it meant to him by that wonderful cheeky grin on his face — a smile none of us will ever forget.

John also contributed enormously towards the building of our brand-new band room. Without his dedication and support, it would certainly have taken much longer to raise the funds we needed.

Last evening, we were honoured to be joined by John’s family as we unveiled the new name for the rehearsal room, dedicated to the two Johns who were absolutely instrumental in making the hall a reality — Mr John Cook and Mr John Lyon.

Today, it was an honour for some of us to perform at his funeral and wake, giving John the musical farewell he truly deserved.

We thank both Johns from the bottom of our hearts for everything they did and have done for the band. Their dedication, friendship, and support will never be forgotten.

We’ll be playing a selection of popular music to keep you all entertained while you enjoy the fantastic steam engines, heritage displays, and family atmosphere throughout the weekend!

💛 A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Community 💛

We just wanted to say a truly heartfelt thank you to everyone who came along and supported our Car Boot Sale yesterday. The turnout was incredible, and it meant so much to see so many familiar faces and new ones too. Your support, generosity, and community spirit made the day really special.

A huge thank you as well to all our members, helpers, and supporters who worked so hard behind the scenes and on the day itself to ensure everything ran so smoothly – we couldn’t have done it without you.

Special thanks to Trafalgar School for kindly allowing us to use their grounds, and to the Cuckoo Fair Committee for helping us spread the word on their page.

Events like this only happen because of the amazing people around us, and we’re so grateful to be part of such a supportive community.
