Uzbekistan is one of the most architecturally beautiful countries in the world. And three of its cities along the Silk Road, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva have all been painstakingly restored to their former beauty.
On this tour, you will learn about the history of these magnificent cities from our wonderful local guide who has excellent English and is knowledgeable and proud of his heritage. On this tour we walk the back streets of Holland Park and see many delightful houses and many blue plaques to talk about. We meet a sixties singing icon and a house that is almost out of this world. NOTTING HILL - More Than Just A Carnival
Hippies, scandals and riots (but no Hugh Grant!)

This walk, has a number of interwoven themes that come together to form an incredible history of this area since the end of the second world war. Firstly Barrie your guide will tell you the story of the West Indians who settled here over the years starting in the 1950's. You'll hear about the major issues that affected them such as prejudice, slum landlords, police brutality and riots.

Barrie has always maintained that doing research for his tours was just as much a pleasure than taking people around on the actual tours. Without doubt putting together this Maida Vale tour has been a major eye opener for Barrie as just walking around the streets and seeing all the different style houses in the area took him by surprise, basically its beautiful around Maida Vale.
