A document titled Jameson Road Landfill Site – Air Quality Technical Support Group, dated 30 June 2026, records that the Environment Agency intended to train officers to use a Jerome hydrogen sulphide (“H₂S”) monitor during routine odour patrols.
On 17 August 2026, Operation Ventus asked the Environment Agency to confirm whether this monitoring had started and, if so, when. If it had not started, we asked when it would begin.
We also asked for the make and model of the monitor; the guidance and procedures governing its use; officer training and competency requirements; calibration, maintenance, and quality-assurance procedures; and details of how readings are recorded and used alongside officers’ sensory assessments of odour.
The Environment Agency received the request on 17 August 2026. Under regulation 5(2) of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (“EIR”), the Environment Agency was required to provide the information as soon as possible, and no later than 20 working days after receiving the request.
That deadline expired on 15 September 2026. The Environment Agency did not seek an extension.
Today (19 September 2026), Operation Ventus requested that the Environment Agency conduct an internal review, as we believe it failed to comply with regulation 5(2) of the EIR.
We remain committed to ensuring accountability and transparency over a landfill that has blighted our community for far too long.
