💚 More Funfair Fiesta Memories – and a Huge Thank You! 🎪

We've already shared some lovely moments from our recent Funfair Fiesta sessions, but with so many fantastic activities and visitors, we couldn't possibly fit everything into one post!

So here are a few more photos from what was a wonderful opportunity for our young carers to engage with people and organisations from across their local community. 📸

One of the things we particularly value at HRYC is the opportunity to bring different organisations into our Young Carers Clubs.

For young carers, having the chance to meet people, ask questions, learn practical skills and find out about the support available to them in a relaxed, familiar setting can be incredibly valuable.

And none of this would have been possible without the people who generously gave their time to join us.

A very big thank you to:
🥊 Andre from Turnstyle – for bringing boxing and kickboxing to our clubs.
🩹 Mike Baxtor, local Scout leader and British Red Cross trainer – for sharing his first aid knowledge.
👮 Terry from Hart Police, and Nilam, Lilly, Karna and Archie from Rushmoor Police.
🚒 Rushmoor Fire Station
💚 Natalie from the NHS Solent Sexual Health Team.
🏛️ Humaira from Rushmoor Borough Council

And, of course, thank you to our wonderful HRYC staff and volunteers for all the work involved in bringing these sessions together.

It's fantastic to see so many people and organisations willing to support local young carers, share their knowledge and help create new opportunities for them.
Community partnerships like these are an important part of what makes HRYC so special. 💚

📸 Enjoy another selection of photos from our Funfair Fiesta sessions!

👩‍🍳 Cooking Up a Storm at Young Carers Club! 💚

There's been plenty happening at our Young Carers Clubs recently, and alongside all the excitement of our Funfair Fiesta activities, our regular Cook & Eat sessions have been keeping our young carers busy in the kitchen! 🍽️

Cook & Eat is an important part of our programme, giving young carers the opportunity to get hands-on with preparing and cooking meals, learning valuable skills along the way.

From developing their cooking abilities and trying new things to working together and building confidence in the kitchen, these sessions are about much more than simply making something delicious! 👩‍🍳

For young carers, learning practical life skills in a relaxed, supportive environment can help develop confidence, independence and a real sense of achievement.

And, of course, there's something particularly rewarding about sitting down to enjoy a meal you've helped prepare! 💚

It's another lovely example of how our Young Carers Clubs provide opportunities to learn, grow, spend time with friends and enjoy a well-deserved break from everyday caring responsibilities.

A huge well done to all our young carers who got involved, and thank you to our wonderful staff and volunteers who help make these sessions possible. 🫶

🎪 Funfair Fiesta: Bringing Our Community Together! 💚

There's been plenty happening at our Young Carers Clubs recently, with a fantastic range of local organisations and individuals joining us for our Funfair Fiesta sessions!

Our young carers had the chance to take part in a wide range of activities, meet people in their local community, learn new skills, and discover more about the services and support available to them.

From boxing and kickboxing with Andre from Turnstyle, to learning basic first aid with Mike Baxtor, a local Scout leader and British Red Cross trainer, there was plenty to get involved in! 🥊🩹

We were also delighted to welcome representatives from Hart and Rushmoor Police, Rushmoor Fire Service, Rushmoor Borough Council and NHS Solent, giving our young carers opportunities to engage with people and organisations working across their local communities. 🚒👮

For HRYC, our clubs are about much more than providing a break from caring responsibilities.

They're also about giving young carers opportunities to build confidence, develop practical skills, ask questions, make connections, and discover new interests, all within a familiar, welcoming environment.

That's why bringing our local community into our clubs is so valuable. 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who gave their time to help make these sessions possible. Your involvement really does make a difference.

📸 We've got lots of lovely photos to share, so here are some of our favourite moments – with more to follow!

❤️ Tune in to Heart Breakfast tomorrow morning! 🎙️

We are incredibly proud of one of our young carers, Finley, who was invited to Global’s London studios this week to record a very special interview with Jamie Theakston for Heart Breakfast, as part of Global's Make Some Noise Appeal Week.

Finley was joined by Josh and Katie for what turned into a pretty unforgettable day, including a behind-the-scenes tour of the Global studios; home to Heart,
Capital FM, Smooth Radio, Classic FM and Radio X. They even had a few unexpected celebrity encounters along the way! 🤩

But the most important part of the day was Finley’s opportunity to share his own story. 💚

During his interview with Jamie, Finley spoke about his experience of being a young carer, some of the things he has been able to do through HRYC, the impact the service has had on him and, how he now gives something back himself by volunteering with our younger groups.

Speaking about your own experiences isn’t always easy, particularly knowing that thousands of people will eventually hear them. Finley did an amazing job and we couldn’t be prouder of him.

A huge thank you to Miriam and Lani for making everyone feel so welcome, showing the group around the studios and giving them the full VIP treatment, and to Jamie and his team for putting Finley at ease throughout the interview. 💚

📻 You can hear Finley’s interview on Heart Breakfast tomorrow – Thursday 8th October at approximately 7:10am.

We hope you’ll tune in and hear what he has to say! 🫶

💚 Among Us… brought to life at Young Carers Clubs!

Over the last couple of weeks, some of our young carers have been taking part in our very own live-action version of Among Us as part of our autumn programme – and judging by the photos, there was plenty of fun along the way! 👀

For anyone unfamiliar with the game, Among Us usually takes place aboard a spaceship, where the crew must work together to complete a series of tasks. The catch? Hidden among them are “imposters” trying to eliminate the crew without being discovered!

Our young carers got to experience their own real-life version, completing different tasks while also trying to work out who they could trust and who might be an imposter! 🚀

Activities like this are a great example of what our regular Young Carers Clubs are all about – giving young carers the chance to take a break from their caring responsibilities, spend time with others who understand their experiences, have fun and simply enjoy being themselves. 💛

It was a brilliant way to kick off our autumn activities – and there’s plenty more to come over the next few months!

📸 Here are a few photos from the Among Us sessions.

💙 A Very Special Thank You to Galleon Marine 💚

If you’ve followed HRYC for a while, there’s a good chance you’ll recognise Galleon Marine Boatyard in Odiham from quite a few of our photos!

Our relationship with Karen and Arthur at Galleon Marine dates back to September 2020, when they welcomed our Senior Young Carers for their first canal trip. Six years later, they have become wonderful friends and longstanding supporters of Hart & Rushmoor Young Carers, generously helping us in so many different ways.

From kayaking and paddleboarding on the Basingstoke Canal to BBQs, volunteer celebrations and, most recently, helping our young carers take on the Odiham Raft Race, Galleon Marine has provided the setting for some very special HRYC memories. 🛶☀️💦

But their support goes far beyond simply providing somewhere for activities to take place.

Karen and Arthur have repeatedly welcomed our young carers, staff and volunteers with incredible generosity and kindness, helping us create opportunities for young people to try new things, build confidence, spend time with friends and enjoy a well-earned break from their caring responsibilities.

Relationships like this mean a great deal to a small local service like ours. Having people in our community who genuinely believe in what we do, and who keep finding ways to support our young carers year after year, makes so much possible. 💚

So this post is simply to say...

Karen, Arthur and everyone at Galleon Marine – THANK YOU. 💙

Thank you for your generosity, your time, your encouragement and for continuing to make HRYC and our young carers feel so welcome.

We are incredibly fortunate to have you in our corner. 🫶

💚 There’s lots happening at our Young Carers Clubs!

Over the next couple of weeks, we’re doing something a little different at HRYC, with a fantastic range of local organisations and individuals joining us at our Young Carers Clubs.

Across our age groups, young carers will have opportunities to try new activities, learn useful skills, meet people in their local community, and access information and support in a relaxed, familiar environment.

From boxing and kickboxing with Turnstyle and basic first aid, to spending time with Rushmoor Fire Station, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, Rushmoor Borough Council and NHS Solent, our young carers will have opportunities to explore everything from practical skills and community safety to relationships, health and wellbeing. There’s going to be plenty happening! 💚

For us, our Young Carers Clubs are not only about giving young carers time away from their caring responsibilities. They’re also about creating opportunities to build confidence, learn, have new experiences and connect with people and organisations that can support them.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone giving their time to come along and get involved, and we’re looking forward to sharing more from the sessions over the next couple of weeks. 📸

🚐 The People Who Help Get Us There! 💚

You see lots of photos from our clubs, trips and activities – but there’s something that happens behind the scenes that makes so many of them possible in the first place...

Getting our young carers there! 🚐

Throughout the year, and especially during our incredibly busy summer programme, we rely on some wonderful people and organisations to help make sure our young carers can get to regular clubs, activities and opportunities they might otherwise be unable to attend.

A huge thank you to Yelabus, our local community transport charity, whose support is invaluable to HRYC, and particularly to Lorraine Davies, their Operations Manager, who does so much behind the scenes to help organise our transport and make sure everything runs smoothly. 💚

We’re also incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated team of volunteer drivers who generously give their own time to help transport our young carers to and from clubs, trips and activities.

Their support throughout our busy summer programme has been incredible, helping our young carers get to activities across the local area and further afield – including our residential in Portland. 🚐💚

For many of the families we support, access to transport can be a real barrier. Having people willing to give their time, provide safe and reliable transport and quite literally go the extra mile means young carers can take part, spend time with friends and access the support and opportunities available to them.

Transport might not always be the part you see in the photos, but it is an essential part of what we do – and something we simply couldn’t manage without the people who make it happen.

🚗 Could you help us get our young carers where they need to be?

We’re always keen to hear from people who might be able to join our fantastic team of volunteer drivers – and there are different ways to get involved.

If you’re able to make a regular commitment, we’re looking for volunteer drivers who can help transport young carers to and from our clubs and activities.

Or, if regular volunteering doesn’t fit around your other commitments, you could join our pool of Ad Hoc Drivers, helping occasionally when we need some extra transport support for a club session, trip or school holiday activity.

Even the occasional journey can make a real difference to a young carer and their family. 💚

💚 Celebrating Our Incredible Volunteers

Earlier in the summer, we had the chance to bring together some of our wonderful HRYC volunteers for a very well-deserved evening of food, fun and time together at the beautiful Galleon Marine Boatyard in Odiham.

With a BBQ, plenty of sunshine and the chance to get out onto the Basingstoke Canal in kayaks, canoes and paddleboards, it was a lovely setting to say a simple but very important thank you. 💚

Our volunteers play an essential role in everything we do at Hart & Rushmoor Young Carers. Whether supporting our regular clubs, helping with activities and trips, providing transport, or simply being there to listen, encourage and spend time with our young carers, their contribution to our service is enormous.

Behind so many of the activities and opportunities you see us sharing are people who generously give their own time to help make them possible.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated team around us, and we hope everyone who joined us enjoyed having an evening to relax, spend time together and have some fun themselves!

A huge thank you to Karen and Arthur at Galleon Marine, who are longstanding and incredibly generous supporters of HRYC, for once again welcoming us and allowing us to use such a fantastic setting for the evening. Your continued kindness and support mean a great deal to us. 💙

And, most importantly, thank you to every one of our fantastic volunteers for the time, energy and care you give to HRYC and our young carers. We simply couldn’t do what we do without you. 🫶

💚 Could You Be Part of the HRYC Volunteer Team?

As this post shows, our volunteers are a hugely important part of HRYC – and we’re always keen to welcome new people who would like to give some of their time to support local young carers.

We’re currently looking for Club Helpers to support our regular young carers’ sessions, helping us provide a welcoming and supportive environment where young carers can spend time with friends, enjoy activities and simply be themselves.

We’re also looking for a Club Cook to help support our club sessions – an opportunity we’ll be telling you a little more about soon when we share some of what our young carers have been getting up to through Cook & Eat. 👩‍🍳💚

If you have some time to give and would like to make a difference to young carers in Hart and Rushmoor, we’d love to hear from you.
