Wooden Spoon Lancashire recently funded the acquisition of some mobile Sensory Voyager equipment for East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust at a cost of £5,650.
Denise Barrett-Wilson, Head of Charity at East Lancashire Hospitals, said: "We are delighted to have been honoured with a grant from the Wooden Spoon foundation. The Sensory Voyager will bring comfort and reassurance to children receiving care at Burnley Hospital by providing a safe, engaging space away from the clinical environment. It helps ease anxiety and fear, transforming difficult moments into opportunities for play, relaxation, and joy. Families also benefit from seeing their child smile and feel at ease, creating precious positive memories even during challenging times."
Martin Long, Chairman of Wooden Spoon Lancashire, added: ”We recently visited Burnley Hospital to view the Sensory Voyager, and we were fortunate to be able to view it being used in the children’s surgical ward and see how it benefits children awaiting a surgical procedure. The family that allowed us to talk to them and their son were lovely, as were all the nursing team on the ward. It also gave me the opportunity to present an engraved wooden spoon to Sarah Atherton in recognition of her running the London Marathon for Wooden Spoon Charity and thereby contributing to the provision of this valuable equipment.”
