TODAY the Scottish Parliament is voting on the the final stage of the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill; it is all about giving communities a bigger say in the land around them.

We know our campaign to buy The Field perfectly demonstrates how land owned by local communities can be used for the and we wholly support the aims of the Bill.

Unfortunately legislation can take time and frustratingly it won't come in time for us. Our need for funds is now. Our deadline before The Field goes on to the open market for sale is the end of December this year.

This isn't just about land ownership. It's about securing a workable long term future for our community and protecting and preserving the natural landscape for all.

Please help us to make our vision a reality.

We need your support to make this happen. Every donation brings us closer to achieving our vision.

Help the Kinlochard community buy The Field. Community ownership of this key piece of land could determine the future of our village.

Clan Watson Society Update
October 2025

Hello all, and welcome to the October 2025 Clan Watson Society update!

Kinlochard Community Launches Global Appeal to Secure Local Field for Future Generations

We open this month’s update with a request for help. The community of Kinlochard, nestled in the heart of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, has launched an ambitious crowdfunding campaign to purchase 'The Field', a vital piece of local land. The initiative aims to bring the land into community ownership, ensuring it is preserved and used for the benefit of residents and visitors for generations to come. The Field is an area rich in flora and fauna. It is a haven for wildlife including some of Scotland’s key native species including red squirrels, badgers, beavers, otters, slow worms, bats and adders - not to mention the birds, insects and amphibians.

This project represents a modern-day story of community resilience and land reform. For years, The Field has been an important aspect of village life, but its future is now uncertain. By purchasing it, the community intends to safeguard it forever as a vibrant, open space for recreation, heritage, education and conservation.

The campaign is reaching out to the global Scottish diaspora—the friends, family, and descendants of Scotland—to help preserve this tangible piece of the homeland. This is a unique opportunity for those with Scottish roots to connect with and preserve a living piece of Scottish heritage and help sustain a small Scottish rural community and ensure a stunning part of the Stirlingshire landscape is protected forever.

Your support can make a direct and lasting impact.

For too long, Kinlochard has felt the instability of land speculation around The Field, leading to a sense of powerlessness. Community ownership is the antidote.

We plan to work with local schools, run citizen science projects, manage invasive species, and create new habitats like ponds and wildflower meadows. It’s about connecting people, especially young people, with nature, teaching them stewardship. Community ownership makes all this possible. It means we can protect and enhance this incredible natural asset for everyone.

Can you help us reach our goal?

“This Field isn't just grass and trees! It's teeming with biodiversity." The Field is a living classroom, a place to inspire the next generation of guardians and protect rare species. Community ownership makes this all possible.
