From 11th to 18th October, our home comes alive again.

I’m calling on all natives of Peki, home and abroad — let’s come home and celebrate our heritage, reconnect with one another, and keep our traditions alive.

And if you cannot make it home this year, you can still be part of it. Support with a donation. Your contribution will help encourage those keeping the tradition alive and support developmental projects for our community.

Because the truth is simple: we all want to come home someday. And when we return, we want to find a community that is growing, a town that is thriving, and people who are still there to welcome us.

Lɔlɔ̃sakɔ – Love Knot

Our ancestors didn’t leave us symbols merely to decorate our walls. They left us symbols to shape our character.

Lɔlɔ̃sakɔ is an Ewe symbol of commitment. It comes from the proverb:

“Ne lɔlɔ̃sakɔ la menya tuna o.”

“When love knots together, it is difficult to untie.”

May this symbol remind us to remain committed to our families, friendships, communities, our purpose, and the values that hold us together.

This is the first episode of my new series, Living Ewe Symbols, where we’ll rediscover the wisdom of our ancestors, one symbol at a time.

I was inspired to begin this series after visiting the National Folklore Board and seeing Ghana’s traditional symbols beautifully displayed on banners, representing Ewe, Akan, Ga, and other cultural traditions. It was a powerful reminder that these symbols are living treasures that deserve to be known by every generation.

A special appreciation to Mr. Felix Yao Adjavor, Executive Director of the National Folklore Board, for his dedication to preserving and promoting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
