On Saturday 18th April, Katie represented The Williams Club as the Guest of Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Farnham at their Peace Dinner.

5 Charities received a Certificate of recognition for their work within the Community, they were Farnham Assist, The Food Bank, Hedgehogs, Farnham Lions and The Williams Club. The 5 charities had reserved tables.

There was a nice talk about Islam and what the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association are doing to stop wars, their philosophy is "Love for All, Hatred for None".

This was followed by a delicious spicy dinner.

The Guests were made very welcome and were very well looked after. The Community willingly answered questions – even the silly ones such as the lives of women in their Community and why they wear different hats.

Many thanks to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Farnham for their kindness.

The Williams Club for People with Visual Impairment in Farnham

On April Fools day afternoon, the members of the Williams Club Farnham came along to the monthly meeting at Farnham Baptist Church.

The April’s meeting had the wonderful Lauren Wayland the Curator/Manager of Farnham Museum. Lauren took us all for a tour through the amazing historical building of Wilmer House, home of the Museum. She started outside the building with the current work that is happening on the Grade 1 listed house. We were given a panel of bricks for everyone to feel what the new yet old bricks are like.

She took us through to the entrance, telling us about the history of the House and then painting pictures in our minds of what the Georgian rooms, staircases, windows, panelling, etc would have looked like, along with allowing us to touch some of the panelled carvings.

During her chat with us she handed round some of the artefacts from the museum, such as a Stone Age flint tool, an owl jug. She also passed some artefacts round for the members to guess what they would have been used for for example a pair of sugar cutting tongs and a cup for administering medication.

Lauren also chatted about the future plans for the Museum and how she would appreciate ideas from the Williams Club Members, of how to make the Museum more accessible to all people and possibly “road test” some interpretations/exhibitions.

After taking questions and chatting to the Members, they gave their rousing thanks to Lauren.

We were treated to a delicious tea provided by the wonderful team from Bourne WI.

The afternoon closed with the infamous raffle (with lots of Easter Eggs and Chocolate as prizes) plus best wishes for Easter Holiday.

The members of the Williams Club for the Visually Impaired of Farnham, celebrated the first day of sunshine this year by singing and dancing. The February meeting was held in the afternoon of the 4th at The Farnham Baptist Church, where we were entertained by the amazingly talented and versatile musician Harry Bassett. Harry had the Members joining in with various songs both singing and dancing, and we all sang with gusto plus doing all the chorography movements to “Sweet Caroline”. He also led us in to some very loud communal singing of Happy Birthday to all our February Birthday Celebrators.

The team of Bake Natter and Roll Farnham WI ensured that the Williams Club Members were well fed with an enormous afternoon tea that they provided. Harry also played BNR’s song that should be their theme tune “Shake Rattle and Roll” of course.

The next get together of the Club will be for lunch at Squires Garden Centre and the next full meeting of the Williams Club will be at 2.00pm on Wednesday April 1st.

Thursday was a Carol Singing day for some of the members and volunteers from the Williams Club.

We were invited in the afternoon by Rodney Bates, the Manager of Farnham Assist to Farnham Baptist Church and join them along with other Farnham Groups and Councillor George Murray the Mayor of Farnham, for a traditional Carol Service.

In the evening the Farnham Castle Trustees invited Farnham Charity Volunteers to come and join them at a Christmas Concert held in the Great Hall at the Castle. Once again Councillor George Murray the Mayor of Farnham joined us - such a busy man. We were entertained by the amazing young singers of Farnham Youth Choir. We, the audience also had to join in with some of the carols - and just like our Williams December meeting, we even had to do a Carol with actions!

Many thanks to the Farnham Assist and Farnham Castle Trustees for their kind invitation and hospitality.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all

The Members of the Williams Club for the Visually Impaired of Farnham, had a Right Royal Afternoon on 5th November. We were graced with the company of our very own royalty - King Bob and Queen Sue along with Princess Monique and Jenny and not forgetting our 4-legged Princess Lilli - all adorning our royal garb.
Jenny had devised a Royal Quiz which had questions ranging from the easy - which Royal lived at Hampton Court, and the taxing - how many rooms including bedrooms and staff rooms are there at Buckingham Palace? (Answers at the end of this article) The members were also tested on their knowledge of royal cakes, preserves and flowers. The competing teams were all given titles of Royal Houses and there had to be a tie breaker at the end of the quiz between the Royal House of Stuart and the Royal House of Tudor and the winning team was the Stuarts.
As well as the quiz we were regally fortified with a magnificent tea provided by the wonderful team from Alice Holt WI. To end our meeting we had the Infamous Williams Club Raffle.
The Williams Club meets monthly, usually on the first Wednesday of the month between 2.00pm and 4.00pm often at the Baptist Church, Farnham. Our next meeting is on Tuesday 3rd December when we will be celebrating Christmas in style with the wonderful singers of Accord, so we will all be adorning our Christmas Jumpers at the meeting.
The Club is in the process of pulling together an exciting Calendar of Events for 2026, which we will announce at the Christmas Meeting. New Members and Volunteers are most welcome; there is no membership fee. For further information please check out our website www.williamsclubfarnham.co.uk or email: [email protected]
And the answers to the questions are: Henry VIII and 775 rooms!
