Stopgap ASMR... ? ✨

In an inclusive dance practice, sound is another way of communicating movement. Verbal cues, rhythm, breath, vocalisations and the sounds we make while moving can all offer information, support musicality, and give dancers different ways to engage with choreography and improvisation.

Being intentional about how we use sound can open up more possibilities for how movement is taught, experienced and shared.

“It is refreshing and empowering to be in a space that encourages a comfortable amount of emphasis to be placed on my deafness”

In her blog ‘Unity in Uniqueness’, Lili reflects on identity: exploring the balance between her deafness being everything and it even being acknowledged. Growing up as the only deaf person in most rooms it became her label, yet at Stopgap, it's simply part of her.

Meet Lili, our newest company dancer!

She joined Stopgap straight from university to originate a role in RO-TES-រទេះ, and in her first blog for us, she gets honest about the past year. The nerves of being the newest in the room, learning to embody an element as bold as fire, and what it's like touring as a deaf dancer whose disability is neither hidden nor the whole story.

What a joyful weekend of movement, connection, and celebration. 🌟

Across two days at Bradford Festival, audiences gathered to experience RO-TES-រទេះ – a vibrant outdoor performance where bold choreography, groundbreaking wheelchair innovation, and live rhythms invited people to come together in shared moments of curiosity, joy, and community.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at Bradford Festival and shared this amazing weekend with us!

Creative Tank is our 3-day inclusive dance intensive, 8–10 September at South East Dance, Brighton. Open to Disabled and non-disabled artists, choreographers, performers and those in training.

Expect choreographic exploration, collaborative improvisation, and an introduction to Stopgap's Translation Method, led by our artistic team!
