Our mission is to preserve the history of the ancient church at the heart of our village - and in this lecture, we will be delving to the ancient history of St Peter's, all the way back to its founding!

Dr James Connelly will take us through the fascinating life of St Wilfred, founder of the churches along the Meon including our very own St Peter's Church in Titchfield, had an incredibly interesting life with careers spanning from preacher, to missionary, to politician, to exile, to reformer. Dr Connelly will cover key events such as St Wilfred's travels across Europe, becoming a champion of the Papacy, and the Synod of Whitby where he convinced King Oswyu of Northumbria to follow the Roman Church, rather than the Irish Church.

Dr Connelly is a social and cultural historian specialising in the early Middle Ages in England. He received his PhD from the University of Wi******er, with a thesis exploring the development of social exclusionary punishments and outlawry in England. His current research focuses on the wanderers and exiles of early medieval England, which St Wilfred can count himself as one of!

Tickets for this Brian Anderson Memorial Lecture can be purchased from Hays Travel, in Titchfield Square (cash) or online at TicketSource here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/booking/select/elamwbngawqp

An annual Titchfield tradition - Carols Around The Tree - returns on the 18th December!

From 6:30pm mince pies and mulled wine will be available by the village Christmas tree for a donation, with all proceeds going towards Friends of St Peter's mission to protect the fabric of our historic church building.

Then, at 7:00pm, we have a blessing from Rev Penny Thatcher before Solent Community Choir will perform a selection of traditional carols. Everyone is invited to join along in song - the carol lyrics are available on your phones, just scan the QR code on any of the posters you'll soon see around the village (or our helper's will help you on the evening!).

As well as cutting down on our printing, please also help the environment by bringing your own mug along from home for your mulled wine if you can!

After everything is said and done (and sung!) we recommend a move to The Bugle, where the Titchfield Whalers will be performing.

We look forward to sharing this wonderful Titchfield tradition with everyone!
