Eynsham Rotary Club was founded in 2010 by twenty residents of Eynsham and the surrounding villages. Over the past five years we have grown to 25 in number, a mix of men and women working in local business, government and a few retirees. Our aim is to play an active part in the local and international community. To further that aim we have raised thousands of pounds for local charitable and commun

ity organisations including Eynsham Day Centre, Bartholomew School's eco-club, Eynsham Youth Club, Eynsham Cricket Club, Eynsham Education Fund, the British Legion and many other organisations and worthy causes in the surrounding villages. We also give our time helping with delivery of the Eynsham Newsletter, village litter picking and organisation of the Eynsham Carnival. Slightly further afield we have helped to assist with fundraising days for Helen & Douglas House, deliver food to Oxford Gatehouse for the homeless and have donated to organisations such as Maggie's Centre, See-Saw, Wheelpower, the Children's Air Ambulance and Yellow Submarine. Internationally, we have donated to Rotary's major fund raising project to help rid the world of Polio, bought a Shelterbox for disaster relief in the Phillipines, and provided water and sanitation to schools in the Kilifi area of Kenya improving the conditions for over 3,000 children. We raise our funds in a number of ways including our annual Race Night, our Santa's Sleigh, Barn Dance and joint events with the Bartholomew Players. Of course we also find time for some fun amongst our charitable and community efforts and amongst other things have organised a skittles evening, barn dance, many walks and attended other Rotary club's events such as a Casino Night, Petanque evening and dinner dances.

Rotary Club of Eynsham - News January 2025
Following on from our much appreciated Santa Tour, Rotary hosted a very successful CPR Training evening with Thames Valley Air Ambulance last week. It was very well attended and I think we all learnt a lot - about the charity, how it works and what it does and, not least, the difference between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest – Interesting! As well as the CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) we were also shown how to use a defibrillator. Hopefully none of us will ever need to use this knowledge, but it feels reassuring to know that if we had to, we would be confident to try and help.
In future our Club will be meeting at The Red Lion. Our usual pattern of meetings will persist – a business meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, and a social/speaker meeting with a meal on the 4th Tuesday. Our next speaker will be from the reading charity BookMark on February 25th.
We would welcome new members so maybe you’d like to come and check us out – the February meeting would be a good one to try. Further details are shown on our page at Eynsham Online.

Eynsham Rotary Club were pleased to es**rt Santa on some of his local village tours. A rather depleted schedule this year in part thanks to Storm Darragh, but we did manage to get out and about in Cassington and central Eynsham.
We would very much like to thank those who came out to meet Santa. It is a joy to meet the enthusiasm of (not just!) the children. And a big thank you to all those who gave so generously.
See you next year!

Rotary Club of Eynsham will be helping Santa on his tour of the village on Friday 20th December.

His route will start at Merton Court at 5.30pm, proceed along Acre End Street, visiting Hazeldene, Dove House Close and ending in and around The Square at about 7.30pm.

Do come out and give him your Christmas wishes and support our fund raising efforts. We will have a card reader for those without cash. Our funds are largely used to support village groups and activities as well as international causes.

Members of the Rotary Club of Eynsham were delighted to help with the preparation of the Standing with Giants silhouettes for NORMANDY 80

Standing with Giants will install 1,475 silhouettes across the wild meadow fields of the British Normandy Memorial in April 2024. The 1,475 giants represent the number of servicemen who died serving under British command on D-Day.

Thanks to the Swan for putting on our Burns Night Supper this week with the traditional fare of Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. We also had a "Come Dressed as a Scot" competition which Kenneth won easily, well done to the others who wore tartan.

Eynsham Rotary Santa visited Eynsham in December

Santa was seen around the village and was present at the Eynsham Lighting up ceremony in the square.
He toured some areas of the village during early evenings in December and visited Eynsham Community Primary School
Santa always looks forward to seeing the children and grown-up children in and around the Eynsham area and wants to visit other local villages next year, so local PTA’s or groups please contact us for assistance in your village.
