Dom, our new Training and Outreach mechanic, has had a busy May supporting volunteers and delivering Dr Bike events out in the community, often using the trustee cargo bike to carry everything he needs.

But it’s not just at events where he’s been helping people.

On the sunny ride back from Exmouth after a Dr Bike session, he came across a stranded cyclist following a suspension failure. Luckily, with a cargo bike full of tools and spares, he was quickly able to get them back on the road. Ride On!

Workshop mechanic Sunny has been developing his photography skills and capturing stories from some of the people who make up the Ride On community — volunteers, visitors, customers and BYOBers — to share a little more of the day-to-day life of the workshop and the people we serve.

To get things started, we had to feature Adrian: one of our longest-serving volunteers, despite rarely riding a bike these days (he prefers canoes!).

When asked what he gets out of coming to Ride On, Adrian said:

“To me, it’s a discipline. I have to get up and come down for a certain time. I love the camaraderie in the workshop, and it gives me a great purpose.”

We’re pleased to say our short maintenance courses are back!

We’re starting with the basics: Brakes and Gears. These sessions are designed to help you tackle the most common bike issues you’re likely to encounter, with practical tips on how to prevent problems before they happen.

Whether you’re new to bike maintenance or just want more confidence keeping your bike running smoothly, these courses are a good place to start, and work well when combined with our BYOB sessions.

This May we'll be riding down the estuary to provide free safety checks for the people of Exmouth. Pre booking essential..

Our experienced and friendly mechanic will put your bike through a safety check to highlight any current or developing issues. Small adjustments can be made, but it is not intended as a replacement to servicing or repair. Feel free to ask our mechanics to show you what they are doing, and talk you through any adjustments they make. This is a perfect chance to have that niggling sound diagnosed or ask any questions you might have to get you cycling safely and bike maintenance in general.

These are in partnership with Libraries Unlimited as part of their Together for Tomorrow project in partnership with CAG Devon and funded by the The National Lottery Community Fund.

Free bike safety checks from Dr Bike on Thursday 28th May!

Here are a few pics from the Ride On volunteer social!

We called this one 'Breakfast of Champignons' as it was a relaxed ride down to Forest Funghi! We had typical spring weather - with bright sunshine and sudden downpours.. but we dried out soon enough.

Quick update for the Easter weekend 🐣

We’re open as usual at Ride On, including today (Good Friday) and Easter Monday, 9–5.

Stock levels are looking healthy thanks to some generous donations and the hard work of our volunteers 🚲

In other news, we’ve got a new camera (you might be able to tell!) and Sunny has been getting to grips with it. We’ve got some exciting plans for it down the line, but for now here are a few shots from Sunny as he learns the ropes, getting some practice on examples from our current stock. If you're interested in any - call us for more details/stock updates. 📸
