With the new academic term underway it's been great to restart our schools programme and meet a new cohort of young mechanics. We have two new schools joining us this term, so we've been working out how to get bikes across the city quickly and easily.

In true Ride On style, we paired an old Thule bike rack with a bombproof trailer. On our first test run it carried 2 bikes from our workshop to with no trouble, and it means one less van on the road. Give us a wave if you see us around!

Every month, we work with to host dozens of Adult Cycle Confidence sessions. These are aimed at new or returning riders & are delivered by a team of friendly, experienced cycle instructors. We even have a fleet of bikes people can access to ensure that people who don't yet have a bike of their own can still access this important training. Last month we beat our own record, with 90 people using a loaned bike, and plenty more bringing their own. Think we can make it to 100?!

What a weekend—two Joy Rides! Saturday's group headed from the workshop to Turf, and Sunday we launched in Exmouth with Amalia and Mike leading the way. They took a group to A La Ronde and back to the seafront. Next ride's already fully booked - but with plenty of demand we'll be looking to offer more dates ahead.

Got an old bike you no longer need?

After a busy summer with increased demand, our bike racks are beginning to show a few gaps! We're particularly short on hybrid bikes (all sizes) along with 24'' wheeled kids bikes. If you have one you no longer need, please consider donating it.
All donations help us get more people cycling — with many helping train our volunteers in bike maintenance, and once finished and checked, sold on at affordable prices. Income from our bike sales makes everything else happen - our free bike scheme, social rides, and BYOB nights. Anything we can't save gets stripped for useful parts and recycled — we aren't fussy. No appointment needed, just pop down Mon-Sat!

🚴 Big news – Joy Rides are coming to Exmouth!

We're excited to be partnering with Exmouth Town Council to bring FREE, friendly community bike rides to the seafront, starting at Sideshore. Like the Exeter rides, these will have an easy pace, be open to all, and led by our friendly, supportive ride leaders. There are two routes - one stays local and heads to A La Ronde while the other ventures further to Budleigh Salterton. Both make use of the cycle infrastructure and quiet roads.

Whether you're dusting off your bike after a break or just fancy a sociable ride by the sea, everyone's welcome.

Meet Jean, a Ride On Regular!

Visitors to Ride On would have noticed we've been hard at work in recent months making the yard and the workshop spaces a nicer place to be. More colour, fun, and importantly, greenery (our yard tomatoes are nearly ready!). Jean has been a key volunteer in making all this happen - bringing her creative talents to each new job!
To get to the workshop, she typically rides either her recumbent trike, or her trusty Dawes Hybrid as pictured here. She says her bike brings her 'freedom, independence, exercise and fun!' and we can't agree more.

It's almost here! From Tuesday - Saturday the Summer Cycling Festival takes over Ride On for a week of free cycling activities with our friends at Active Devon.

Big big thanks to Alfred who was with us for Work Experience this week! He pitched in with all aspects of Ride On — helping us sort parts, refurbish bikes, speaking with customers and was also able to build on his existing skills as a mechanic. The last bike he worked on was this lovely Giant road bike - a good test of his know-how.
