Inky Fingers Workshop

Inky Fingers Workshop Inky Fingers Workshop is a repurposing project with high environmental and social values. We have an according-to-ability approach to inclusive working.

Our volunteer team share a passion for doing good by example and supporting each other in our endeavours. Tasks involve measuring, cutting, binding and glueing using a variety of machines and tools. Some people have support needs, some just want to hang out and be a part of what is going on. We have a zero-to-waste approach to our high-quality merchandise production - we make notebooks from old ha

rdback books and gift tags from post-consumer office surplus. We are a part of the Magic Carpet family.

collage club fun times!
‘Wish you weren’t here’ was the theme, with a whole bunch of vintage postcards and tiny images to work with.
We talked about who we might send them to, and some are already consigned to a new art/ collage cork-board wall in the family kitchen!

An enjoyable evening and people got to take away any bits they’d cut out but not used, as usual.

Soundtrack was a mix of Country, 80’s Soul and Disco!

Same time next month, deets forthcoming soon!

Now that they’ve gone live we can shout about these sweet posters we made with Art Bloc
You can grab tickets for their event at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/artbloc-tickets-1993316904520
We used a heavier weight Dove coloured card for most of the posters, but also popped a few out on black card and they totally ping! (print doesn’t photograph well)
Look out around north Devon for some of these in the wild!

A super-sweet RISO printing session this evening with Alex Williams
Here’s a great example of the ‘printmaker’ approach mixed with on-the-fly illustration - and lovely results too!

Give us a shout with your print ideas and join in monthly, 3rd Tuesday. Booking form in our Linktree.

A calm and collected investigation of the materials this month. Life outside was a bit hot, chaotic and frenetic, so it was great to have a fan, jugs of squash and to move slowly!

Chat was varied, a bit of catching up and making plans, experiences being remembered through the images on offer and some great projections of intentions.

We had a couple of proper coffee table photo books for this one, and it feels like there’s another level that can be reached with a bit of reverence for the source materials.

Please say hi to 🟣

A new development - responding to some lovely vintage books…
After the last couple of markets we’ve had conversations about the ‘top end’ of our range.

We’ve spent some time stockpiling Victorian and Edwardian books with beautiful aspects - embossed, gold leaf, coloured printing on cloth… So now we’ve started binding them with better quantity paper mixes - laid, hammered vellum, watermarked. We’ve chosen and fitted endpapers that are hand printed or period-specific and added sweet details - like vintage bookseller and publisher stickers…
We’ve also ensured that each one moves slowly through the process/ production team, with time taken to ensure the pages are cut precisely and the binding is as excellent as we can make it!

They are still going to be affordable, just a fraction above our 🔴 range…
They’ll be rolling out in time for the Christmas markets…

Coming up - live the gritty-glamour life with vintage photo books and magazines for the next Collage Club workshop.

As always, you can take away what you don’t use in the session if it all gets a bit too much (it always does)!

is a hands-on, artist-led, craft evening and adult social space. Learn new techniques, styles and approaches in a stimulating, safe and sociable workshop environment, with cups of tea.
We provide scissors, accessible cutting tools, glue & mount board. You will want to bring your own craft knife, scalpel and cutting mat if you wish, for precision work.

Each workshop is themed, with specific materials provided (Inky Fingers has a zero-to-waste agenda and processes 100s of old books each year – capturing loads of amazing pictures and illustrations) and a rolling stock of high quality images to draw from. You’re welcome to bring additional materials to add into the mix.

Tuesday 7th July 6.30 - 9pm
£5-£10 Pay What You Can
Positive Light Projects, Sidwell St.

Check the full programme as it emerges via Linktree in our bio or our website. You can also book in via Eventbrite, but we take payment on the night - cash or card.

Apologies for the awful photographs!
Another fun time at last week - the special, looking at post-human worlds where flora and fauna can flourish!

Good conversations were had and a couple of people have now got to the point of making more than one collage in a session!

The programme there’s for the rest of the year are now on our website or Eventbrite (and see linktree). You don’t have to book but it gives us an idea of numbers.

Book Market time!!
We've been super-busy making our trademark recycled notebooks for...months now!
We do two markets a year and the summer is our favourite!
You'll be able to find loads of book-related things to do and be entertained with across the whole Quayside this Sunday - inside the Custom House, the Transit Shed and on the Piazza, where we will be (yellow square, top left on the the map).

We'll have our notebooks (obvs), some ever-popular gift tags, collage packs and our new line of collage books - like notebooks but with 30 thick/sturdy pages - ideal for a month of activity!

We'll also be running another activity - 'make an action and adventure collage postcard' - as it was so popular last year!

Sunday 7th June, 11am - 4pm... see you there!

Great fun with the session this week - some deeply resonant posters, a sweet zine and an artist with a mission to… lubricate!
These monthly workshops are a great way of bringing your ideas to life, meeting other creative and making something wonky-fresh!

You can register/book in via our Linktree or web site - it’s worth knowing that we keep the group size small so that you get a personalised service, and we can finish before midnight!

All that’s to say- don’t forget that next month we’re running a special one!
It’s a one-off and responding to the needs of our time - Protest Poster Printing!
We’ll be looking at inspirations from famous protest posters and movements, hearing about the legalities of fly posting and making a whole bunch of opinions to decorate the city!

It’s a part of , so it’s going to be a fun one!
