Welcome to this service recorded at South Street Baptist Church on Sunday 24th May, 2026 - Pentecost Sunday when we celebrate God giving the followers of Jesus the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The service is led by our minister Simon, and our Pentecost theme is 'The Spirit of Mission'. Simon remembers how Jesus tells his disciples not to leave Jerusalem until they have received the gift of the Spirit. Mission is only to be done with the leading and inspiring of the Spirit - by the Spirit Jesus is with us in our mission.

We hear the story of the Spirit coming in power and reflect on the drama of the scene. Simon comments that a crowd is drawn not to the fire and wind of this moment but to the voice of God being heard through the disciples. The Spirit enables the first disciples to speak with a voice that a diverse crowd can understand.

The service includes:
Welcome and Call to Worship
Hymn O breath of love
Opening Prayer The Lord’s Prayer
Hymn Give me oil in my lamp
First Reading: Acts 2.1-17
Hymn Spirit of God, unseen as the wind
Second Reading John 16.5-15
Sermon The Spirit of Mission
Hymn When our Lord walked the earth
Prayers of Intercession using the song ‘Come Holy Spirit’
Offering and Dedication
Hymn Lord of the Church
Blessing

Our closing music is played by Mary Ellis, one of our organists.

Welcome to this service recorded at South Street Baptist Church in Exeter on Sunday 3rd May, 2026. The service is led by our minister Simon and is part of a our Holy Habits discipleship series. Currently, we are looking at 'Making more disciples'.

In this service, Simon reminds us that Jesus does not have a one-size fits all approach but responds to the needs of the individual. His message is appropriate to their context. This means that our journeys to faith in God through Jesus will vary. Simon contrasts the story of the calling by Jesus of fishermen with Paul's dramatic converstion. Simon tells us that to become a follower of Jesus is easy but costly. We commit our lives to Christ through belief in Jesus and confession that he is the Risen Lord.

The service includes:
Welcome and Call to Worship
Hymn At the name of Jesus
Opening Prayer followed by The Lord’s Prayer
Reading: Romans 10. 5-13

Reading Mark 1.14-20
Song: Gloria, gloria
Sermon Becoming a Disciple

Communion
Hymn I will sing the wondrous story
Blessing

Welcome to this service recorded at South Street Baptist Church in Exeter on Sunday 26th August, 2026. The service is led by our minister Simon and continues our Holy Habits discipleship series. Currently, we are exploring the theme of "Making more disciples".

This week, Simon takes up back to the passage that inspires the Holy Habits series - Acts 2.42-47. This passage describes the life of the Early Church and Simon uses it to reflect on the kind of church that adds up - the church that draws people to the love of Jesus.

For Simon this is a church that expresses community and has at its heart the story of Jesus, a story that we are now invited to step into. It is a church that offers a real hope as the love of God is seen to be transforming lives.

The service includes:
Welcome and Call to Worship
Songs God welcomes all & Jesus stand among us at the meeting of our lives
