Good news, and a promising start from Andy Burnham.

This will make a big difference for passengers in North Devon, many of whom have seen their commute more than double over the past couple of years.

Liberal Democrats have been campaigning against the bus fare hike from the very beginning and, locally, we ran a successful campaign last year that resulted in Stagecoach widening the reduced-fare ticket zone in North Devon.

But, as with many rural areas, North Devon's public transport still faces particular challenges. I'll be raising these with our new Prime Minister.

🚌 Buses are a lifeline for our communities – but too many people are being left behind.

Our new research shows that 1 in 7 people in England don’t have access to a decent bus service, making it harder to get to work, school, healthcare appointments and spend time with friends and family.

That's why we've launched a new interactive bus map, revealing where gaps in bus provision exist and where investment is needed most.

We found that an extra £300 million a year could ensure every community has access to a basic level of bus service. That's just 0.15% of the NHS budget – a relatively small investment that could make a huge difference to people's lives.

Better buses mean better access to opportunity, less isolation, stronger local economies and greener, more connected communities. 🌱
