Stagecoach South West's new 'Greater Exeter area' fares structure, billed as offering passengers 'better value', means massive fares hikes for Exeter residents.
Examples include
➡️'Greater Exeter' Dayrider ticket (unlimited travel for a day) up from £5.50 to £6.50, a hike of 18%
➡️Termrider ticket up from £243 to £312 a term – a massive 28% hike for students
➡️Scrapping ‘Exeter Flexi10’ which enabled passengers to purchase 10 Dayrider tickets for £38.50 - replaced with just 5 multi-buy tickets for £26, a whopping 35% increase.
Green Party councillors have met with the Stagecoach South West boss and called on him to review bus fare hikes and reintroduce the child £1 add-on ticket for any child travelling with a paying adult - a ticket introduced some years ago following a Green Party campaign.
Greens believe strongly that bus fares shouldn’t be left to the whim of private bus operators but should be set by a regional transport authority along with routes and frequencies. This would mean passengers are prioritised over private profit.
