Emsworth Chess Club AGM is taking place on 7:30 PM, Thursday 18th June, at Emsworth Sports & Social Club (ESSC).

Club members please try & attend.

Apart from officer election, financial report and team captains report we will discuss the club's new location at Emsworth Community Centre (ECC), membership charges and how many teams we will play in the 2026/7 Portsmouth League.
If you have any other subject, we can add to the agenda.
Your opinion is valued and we would like to achieve a consensus.

The 2026 Portsmouth Individual Championship will once again be run as a Rapid event.
It will be held on Saturday 4 July at Emsworth Chess Club.
The winner will win the Portsmouth Individual Cup and a cash prize, other prizes include grading and junior.
The event will only be viable if we reach at least 20 entries (maximum 40).
Please support this event and distribute this note to all members of your clubs.

On the 6th June 2026 Fareham Chess Club will be hosting its 2nd ECF rated Open Rapidplay tournament at its playing venue, the Duke of Connaught’s Own Club, 74 Western Rd, Fareham PO16 0NS.

Once again this will be run with the aim of donating a proportion of the entry fees received to the registered charity ‘Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance’ https://www.hiowaa.org/.

6-rounds: Commencing at 10:15, 11:30, 1:00, 2:15, 3:30, 4:45.

Rate of play: 15 minutes and 10 second increments from the start of the game

Entry fee: £20 (ECF Gold members)

Entry: Closes on Monday 1st June 2026 – no entries will be accepted on the day.

Just watched this interview with Ukranian IM Roman Dehtiarov who had a brilliant tournament win to become The European champion.
Commentary on the games shows his in-depth positional understanding - particularly king side attacking

Vaishali comes over as honest and modest after winning the womens Candidates. Quite a long interview but interesting how she has bounced back from so many setbacks. A lesson for us all.
