Ely Beet Sports & Social Club Angling Section Welcome to the EBSSC Angling Section page. EBSSC as an angling club has a rich heritage, a variety of waters and a great future.

Our aim is to improve and develop our fisheries, protect our fish stocks and make the river and pits a pleasant place to catch fish (or not!). We welcome your input to our page. We do not tolerate swearing or improper language and our admin team reserve the right to delete any posts we believe to be unsuitable. Tight lines and have fun.

River Ouse 1st November 2026.

Please see below the email Ely Rowing Club has sent.

This is just a courtesy email to let you know that we will be running our annual rowing event the Ely Head on Sunday 1st Nov 2026.

There is in the region of 100+ rowing boats that will be going along the river from Littleport to Ely Rowing Club during approx. 9am to 3pm.

Please feel free to cheer them on.

Membership Cards.

Members must be in procession of their membership cards at all times. Copies on your phone is not proof of membership!! We would also like members to have additional form of id so we can check.

To the angler that was fishing on the reserved Winter League A section, if your eye sight is that bad that you could not read the signs I suggest you take up another sport! Unfortunately the member who asked you to leave did not take your name and membership number so we could deal with you.

Predator fishing.

As the temperatures are reducing we have decided to allow dead and live baiting on the river and pit from today.

A reminder that anglers must be within 3mtrs of their rods at all times. Any members not following this EA and club rule will be asked to leave the water immediately and not return.

It is not in the rules yet, however the committee would prefer members to use semi barbless hooks while dead/live baiting and lure anglers to use barbless hooks at all times.

Reminder, no fluorocarbon traces while predator fishing with lures and baits.

Great River Ouse Parking.

Parking is NOT permitted on any banks of the River Ouse!!

We have had a few occasions recently where members cars are being parked on top of the banks near the Lark outfall and the bridges, please do not park there!!!

We know parking is very limited however there is nothing we can do about increasing access/parking.

If you are fishing these sections on the Saturdays before the dates below please vacate the section by midnight.

8 pegs below Queen Adelaide and Sandhill section (Practice)

River Ouse Match Booking.

9th August 2026.

The section from the disabled pegs to Potters Bridge is reserved for a match. This section of river is closed from 9.00 pm August 8th.

Predator fishing Reminder

Dead baiting and live baiting on Beet waters is not permitted until November.

A member found two anglers dead baiting on Roswell today, the member witnessed one of the anglers landing a Zander, it took twenty minutes for the angler to revive the Zander which is totally unacceptable.

If any member sees another member predator fishing please have a word with the angler and send me a message asap.

Keepnets.

With the forecast of high temperatures the use of keepnets are not permitted on Roswell pit.

If you plan to use a keepnet on the River Ouse your keepnet must be a minimum length of 4mtrs. Please do not use a keepnet on Foremill Wash if you fish the pegs that have shallow water in close.
