Helping babies feel good about themselves starts from the very beginning.

Simple everyday interactions help build a baby's confidence and sense of self-worth. Returning their smiles, responding to their sounds, talking with them and giving them time to "reply" shows them that what they do matters.

😊 Smile at your baby during feeds
👏 Celebrate their achievements, no matter how small
🧸 Clap when they reach for a toy
🤗 Offer cuddles and encouragement when they try something new
💬 Listen and respond to their babbles and sounds

These loving, positive interactions help babies feel valued, secure and confident as they learn about themselves and the world around them. 🦜

🧊🦖 FREE THE DINOSAUR! 🦖🧊

This simple frozen dinosaur activity is packed with opportunities for learning, exploration and fun!

Children love the challenge of rescuing the dinosaur from the ice, and along the way they become little scientists as they investigate what happens when ice melts and how different tools can help speed up the process.

🔍 What are children learning?

🦜 Early STEM skills through hands-on exploration
🦜Cause and effect by testing different ideas
🦜 Problem-solving and critical thinking
🦜 Fine motor skills through spraying, squeezing, tapping and chipping
🦜 Language development as they describe what they see and feel

💬 Encourage conversations using words such as cold, frozen, melt, slippery, crack, smooth, hard, soft, float and sink. Asking open-ended questions like "What do you think will happen next?" helps children develop their thinking and communication skills.

💡 Ways to free the dinosaur:

🦜 Spray warm water onto the ice
🦜 Use coloured water for extra fun
🦜 Compare warm and cold water and discuss the differences
🦜 Paint the ice with warm water
🦜 Carefully chip away the ice using toy tools

🧠 Activities like this inspire curiosity, imagination and creativity while supporting children's learning through play.

Why not have a go at home? Simply place a small toy in a container of water, freeze overnight and enjoy the challenge of setting it free! 🦕🧊

🚼 Babies on the Move! 🚼

Did you know that encouraging your baby to move is one of the best ways to support their development?

Gross motor skills are the foundation for many important milestones. Activities such as tummy time, rolling, reaching, crawling, cruising and early walking help babies build the muscle strength, balance and coordination they need to explore the world around them.

Why are gross motor skills so important?

🦜Strengthen core muscles, shoulders, hips and legs
🦜Improve balance, posture and coordination
🦜Support healthy physical development
🦜Build confidence and independence
🦜Lay the foundations for walking, running and other movement skills

Simple ways to encourage movement:

🦜Enjoy regular tummy time on safe surfaces
🦜Place toys just out of reach to encourage stretching and reaching
🦜Create safe spaces for crawling and exploring
🦜Let babies spend time barefoot indoors when learning to stand and walk, helping them develop balance and body awareness

Every wiggle, roll, shuffle and crawl is helping your little one grow stronger. By developing good core and muscle strength, babies gain the confidence they need to take those exciting first steps and become happy, confident walkers 👣

👣 Remember: every child develops at their own pace. Celebrate their progress and enjoy the journey as they discover all the amazing ways their bodies can move! 🦜

Writing
✏️🖍️ The Power of Early Mark Making! 🖍️✏️

Did you know that early mark making begins long before a child picks up a crayon? Through everyday experiences like squishing, poking, and exploring food in their high chair, babies are starting to develop important fine motor skills. These messy moments help strengthen little hands and fingers, laying the foundations for future writing skills.

As children grow, scribbling, painting, drawing, and making marks in sand or shaving foam continue to build hand strength, coordination, creativity, and communication. Most importantly, children begin to understand that their marks can have meaning.

So let's celebrate the mess and the scribbles—they're not "just play," they're the first steps on a child's journey to becoming a confident writer! 🦜
