🍂 Nature Walk & Pinecone Painting! 🍂

There are so many wonderful benefits to getting outside for a nature walk with children! It encourages curiosity, supports physical development, builds confidence, and gives little ones the chance to explore and connect with the natural world. 🌳

On our walk, we collected some lovely pinecones to take home. Then came the fun part! 🎨

We popped a piece of paper into a box, added some paint and our pinecones, and gave the box a good shake, roll and move to create a beautiful picture! 🖌️📦

A simple, low-mess activity that promotes gross motor skills, coordination and movement — while being lots of fun! 🍃

Sometimes the simplest activities create the biggest smiles! 🦜

🍂Autumn is here 🍂

Have you spotted the signs?

Fallen leaves, conkers to collect, muddy footprints and chilly noses all make autumn a brilliant time to get children outside exploring.

Here are some simple outdoor activity ideas to try together, from collecting leaves and spotting animal tracks to watching the sunset or warming up with a flask of hot chocolate.

🍁 A simple song like 'Walking in the forest' has so many hidden benefits for babies and toddlers:

🎵 Learning to listen carefully - as they get used to the rhythms and rhymes of familiar songs they'll start to mimic or join in with the rhyming bits or the repeated chorus

🎵 They can focus their attention and listen to the sounds around them - the crunch of dry leaves, the snap of a twig, maybe a plane flying over or a motorbike roaring by

🎵 Joining in by adding other sounds and verses, or changing the words to fit in with where you're going. Or changing the tune if you prefer a different one.

🎵 Making a "boring" walk a bit more interesting, by distracting them with the song or giving them a focus - looking for leaves or other things that make a noise. A cheerful toddler is more fun to be with than a whining toddler!

No one song is a magic bullet, and sometimes children just aren't in the mood for singing. But building up a bank of songs that you both know is worth it for the many times that they DO want to listen or join in. 🦜

🍂 LET’S MAKE SOME AUTUMN MAGIC! 🍂

Calling all little witches and wizards! 🧙‍♀️🧙‍♂️

Why not head out on a lovely nature walk and collect some treasures to make your very own nature wand? 🌿🍁

All you need is:

🪄 A stick
🧶 Some colourful wool, ribbon or string
🍂 Natural treasures such as fallen leaves, feathers and seed cases

Let little imaginations run wild as you wrap, tie and decorate your wands using all the wonderful things nature has to offer. 🌳

Once your wands are complete, it’s time to wave them about, cast some spells and let the magical adventures begin! 🪄💫

🍂🍁 NATURE CONFETTI FUN! 🍁🍂

We had so much fun making our very own nature confetti!

We started with a little nature walk, collecting fallen leaves and enjoying the beautiful colours and textures along the way.

🍂 A perfect excuse to get outside and explore!

Once back, it was time to get those little hands working! ✂️ The children practised their fine motor skills by using scissors to cut the leaves into tiny pieces. It’s such a simple activity, but fantastic for building hand strength, coordination, concentration and scissor skills.

Then came the REALLY fun part…

We made our own confetti cannons using a paper cup and a balloon! 🎈 We filled them with our homemade leaf confetti, pulled back the balloon and… LAUNCHED! 🍂💨

So much excitement, laughter and fun — and a lovely activity that everyone can get involved in!

And the best bit? Our leaf confetti is natural and biodegradable, making it a lovely way to enjoy some messy fun outdoors. 🌱

🍁 Nature + fine motor skills + creativity + a little bit of chaos = the perfect afternoon! 🍁 🦜

🎶 Musical Moments – Causing Sounds! 🎶

Babies and young children are natural little explorers! They love to grab, shake, bang and tap objects to see what happens — and in doing so, they’re discovering that their actions can create sounds. 🔔🥁

Why not encourage your little one to explore sounds using safe everyday objects? Pots, wooden spoons, containers, shakers and homemade instruments can all provide wonderful opportunities for play, curiosity and learning.

These simple musical moments help children develop their listening skills, coordination, cause-and-effect understanding and creativity — all while having fun! 🎵

Children don't remember whether activities are Pinterest-worthy or if it's trending on Instagram reels. They remember that you joined in.

So whether today's play involves gloop, a trip to the park, a made-up story or a chat on the banana phone, let your child lead.

Following their ideas shows them that what they enjoy matters, and that's one of the simplest ways to help build their confidence and feel good about themselves. 🦜
