On February 15th, as part of The Mound Chinese New Year Celebration 2026, a group dressed in traditional Chinese attire, led by Scottish bagpipers and carrying Chinese New Year decorations, strolled through Edinburgh's Old Town, adding a festive touch to the wintery city.

The Mound Chinese New Year Celebration 2026! from vibrant folk customs to dazzling performances, Chinese culture is connecting with local communities, tuning the winter chill into a festival of colour, joy and celebration! The Deputy lord provost of Edinburgh Lezley Marion Cameron and Consul General Zhang Biao of the Chinese Consulate General in Edinburgh spoke at the event, offering their blessings for the Year of the Horse and distributing red envelopes to children according to tradition.

This is a series of cultural and artistic performances with the theme of the traditional Chinese Spring Festival. Audience participation and interaction include experiencing traditional Chinese dance, Lion dance, and giving out red envelopes and more. This year the event is supported by Lottery Fund and Heriot-Watt University

Witness Tang Dynasty choreography reborn through celestial chimes and embroidered silks, performers will reconstruct palace rituals and poetic movements. while traditional sleeve techniques merge with contemporary physical theatre. On January 25, 2025, the Chinese New Year was celebrated at the Mound. the Lord Provost Robert Aldridge, Consul General Zhang Biao, former Lord Provost Lesley Hinds, and Honorary Editor-in-Chief of Foreign Languages ​​Press David Ferguson opened the celebration ceremony by dotting the lion's eyes and waking up the lion.
