28th Scouts Sleep Out for the Homeless.
Scouts like nothing better than a camp out. But the Scouts at the 28th Braid do it a bit differently and, in doing so raised £2,850 for the Bethany Christian Care Trust. Well done.
Forgoing tents for cardboard boxes, on a cold and windy night March night they slept rough outside in the garden of their meeting place, Newington Trinity Parish Church. The 28th Scouts have a history of raising funds for Bethany Christian Care Trust to help in their work with homeless people and set out this year to raise at least £2,000 in sponsorship. Scouts promise to help other people and the 28th Scouts have certainly demonstrated Scouting values at its best whilst having an adventure at home.

Highly recommend Clubbiedeans, not least because they offer a Scout discount (wear your neckerchief). Ideal for a hike checkpoint - particularly if you need to appease a leader for or treat yourself on the ‘long wait’. Also ideal as a break stop on an accompanied hike.

After a long, miserable January and only a slightly better February, we’re delighted to say we’re reopening on March 14th! 🎉

We can’t wait to welcome you back up to Clubbie — come and sample our legendary selection of scones and view our large selection of swans (11 in the picture below).

So, if you’re not heading to Ireland to watch Scotland’s bid for the Triple Crown, why not make that walk up the Pentlands part of your weekend again.

Looking forward to seeing you all back at the clubbie as the longer days return.

Also a pleasure to present Andy Ballantine, 44th Scout Troop Team Member with a Commendation Award. This recognises Andy's "good turn' when he volunteered to give up a weekend supporting another Group's weekend camp, replacing a Leader who was unable to take part. In doing so the young people of that Group were able to have an amazing weekend at Scout Adventures Lochgoilhead. By unselfishly helping others, Andy's commitment is worthy of a Commendation. 2/3

Always a pleasure to be able to support Groups and Sections. So when the 44th put out a call for adults to help support their Group Camp, Alex, the Youth Lead, and I were delighted to be able to offer support. Of course, it also provided an opportunity to recognise some leaders in the Group, The first was Hellen Wootton, Squirrel Team Leader, who was presented with her Wood Badge certificate and beads. 1/3

A reminder of the important legal changes to the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020 came into force last year. Volunteers in Scotland must be fully compliant with these changes by 1 April 2026.

These changes will mean more volunteers will need a PVG than before, including:
🟠Adult volunteers (Trustees, parent rotas, helpers)
🟠Young Leaders and Helpers aged 16–17
🟠Adults and young people aged 16+ visiting Scotland from elsewhere and volunteering in a regulated role at the invitation of Scouts in Scotland

Find out what this means for you and what action you need to take: https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/staying-safe-and-safeguarding/criminal-record-checks/scotland

Congratulations Scottish Rugby.

Massive congratulations to our Good Service Award recipients in the past quarter. The list was published by Scouts Scotland. Very proud of our adult volunteers who have been recognised either against the Region or District listing (they are all District volunteers).
