Our communications and engagement roadshows have come to an end!

Over the past few months, we've travelled the length and breadth of Scotland, bringing together staff and supported people to share their experiences and help shape the future of Ark.

Across all nine events, we engaged with almost 280 staff and supported people from across Ark. From thoughtful discussions and valuable feedback to plenty of laughs along the way, every session was packed with insight, honesty and enthusiasm.

The stories we heard highlighted the incredible impact our services have on people's lives and the dedication of our staff teams. We also gained a better understanding of what matters most to people, how we can improve, and how we can continue to recognise and share the amazing work happening across Ark every day.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, shared their views and got involved.

Supported People from our Linlithgow service recently enjoyed another fantastic day out on the Trishaws with Cycling Without Age Scotland Linlithgow

This wonderful volunteer group takes our Supported People out every second Wednesday, giving people the chance to enjoy the fresh air, explore the local area and spend time together in the community.

Staff recently took part in our First Aid Awareness course, building their knowledge and confidence in responding to a range of emergency situations, including heart attacks, strokes, burns, shock and anaphylaxis.

The course included plenty of practical activities, from CPR and AED demonstrations to experiencing the choking vest. Participants also got to put their acting skills to good use during a large-scale accident triage scenario, helping to bring the training to life and test their teamwork and decision-making skills in a realistic setting.

A big thank you to everyone for their enthusiasm, energy and willingness to get involved throughout the course. It made for a fantastic learning experience.

We're looking for supported people who would like to represent Ark at this year's 'People We Support' Football Tournament, hosted by The Richmond Fellowship Scotland.

Date: Wednesday 19 August
Time: 10am to 4pm
Location: Murieston United Community Football Club, Bankton Walk, Livingston, EH54 9LE

The tournament promises a day of football, fun and friendly competition, with teams from organisations across Scotland taking part. Lunch and refreshments will be provided, and friends, family and carers are welcome to come along and support.

If you'd like to be involved, please speak to your staff team, or our Participation Officer, and let them know you're interested.

David Douglas, a Learning & Development Officer for Ark, has recently been appointed as the Third Sector Representative on the Scottish Manual Handling Passport Review Group.

Many of you will know David through his role as one of Ark's trainers, but he's also our go-to person for all things Moving & Handling, leading in this area at Streets Ahead - Borders and continually building his knowledge and expertise.

When the opportunity came up to join the national review group, David was an obvious choice. His passion for safe practice, practical training and improving outcomes for the people we support makes him a fantastic representative for both Ark and the wider sector.

The Scottish Manual Handling Forum plays an important role in reviewing and developing the Scottish Manual Handling Passport Scheme, helping to ensure it remains relevant, practical and aligned with best practice across health and social care.

Well done, David - a well-deserved achievement!

Over the past few months, we've been travelling across Scotland to meet with staff and supported people as part of our communications and engagement events.

These sessions are helping us better understand what we're doing well, where we can improve, and how we celebrate success and share stories both internally and externally.

So far, we've held six of our nine events, with around 200 staff and supported people taking part. The conversations have been honest, inspiring and full of examples of the difference our staff teams make every day.

One story that really stayed with us was from a supported person who is preparing to move into their own tenancy. As they shared what this milestone means to them, there wasn't a dry eye around the table. It was a wonderful reminder of the life-changing impact that the right support can have.

Alongside the discussions, there was plenty of laughter too, with table Olympics and bingo bringing out everyone's competitive side!

A huge thank you to everyone who has taken time out of their busy day to join us, share their experiences and help shape the future of Ark. Your honesty, passion and commitment are invaluable.

We're looking forward to meeting even more colleagues and supported people at our final three events.
