‘No to the Far-Right in Edinburgh’ - counter protest called by Stand up to Racism Edinburgh
📣 Sat 6th Sept, 11am
📍Assemble Scottish Parliament
Far-right holocaust deniers ‘A Force for Good’ are threatening to protest in Edinburgh this Saturday. Their main organiser Alistair McConnachie said “I don’t accept that gas chambers were used to execute Jews”. Their rally is being backed by the Save our Future & Our Kids Futures campaign whose racist protest two weeks ago featured Sieg Heiling and the display of a banner outside a refugee hotel that said “Kill ‘em all! Let God Sort ‘em out’.
The far-right claim to be protecting our communities, but are actually a danger to all of us. At their most recent anti-refugee protest in Falkirk, the Save our Futures group, the supposed women rights champions made sexual threats to antifascist women, threats of violence, chants of support for Tommy Robinson and threw stones and eggs at anti-racists defending a hotel housing refugees. They used homophobic slurs. One of their stalwarts was arrested after being accused of racial harassment towards a black delivery driver who not even involved in the anti- racist counter protest.
They pretend to be concerned about housing, but attacking people of colour will not build a single home. People trying to escape war and repression are not the ones putting up energy prices or paying wages that make people dependent on food banks. It is corporations and businesses.
It is important to say no to racism. It is a nasty dead-end that will make life worse for everyone if allowed to spread. As Dave Moxham of the Scottish Trades Union Congress said recently, we face many social problems but “none of these things are the fault of refugees. It’s the millionaires and billionaires and people like Farage who let them off the hook while they bleed our country dry. Let’s remember the vast majority are on our side and we will be campaigning in the workplaces, with the churches and in the food banks over the coming weeks to make this case.”
We need a mass anti-racist movement, made up of trade unions, LGBT+, community and faith groups and refugee rights organisations that can stop the rise of the far right on our streets and show that Scotland is anti-racist, welcomes refugees and can will stop this dangerous rise of the far right.
Join us on Saturday and ‘say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here!’
