South East Scotland Scouts

South East Scotland Scouts We explore, make friends, and learn a few useful things along the way. That’s pretty much it. This is the page for South East Scotland Scouts. It is!

Why not like us to see the fantastic adventures being enjoyed by our young people? Volunteering with Scouts is rewarding. Scouting gives young people aged between 4 and 25 years old the opportunity to discover just what they can do and what they can achieve. From spending their first night away from home to planning an international expedition, the unique experiences Scouts of all ages enjoy help

them to realise their full potential and set them up with skills for life. Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges. Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Scouts helps them develop skills, confidence and a sense of hope. We inspire positive futures and help young people find their place in the world by developing the character, employability and practical skills they need to succeed. Regardless of your child’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we’ll help them find it. You don’t need to be Bear Grylls to join us. You don’t need to have been a Scout when you were younger. You don’t even need to know how to put up a tent! Our door is open to people of all ages, genders, races and backgrounds, and we’re only able to change lives because people like you lend a hand. We’re talking about tea makers, tidy-uppers and skill sharers. We’re talking about mini bus drivers and first aiders. We’re talking about students who want to boost their CV, and parents who volunteer so they can spend more time together as a family. Whatever your skillset, lend a hand for as little or as much time as you can spare, and we promise you’ll get more out than you put in. Because whether you’re helping a leader to run an activity in the local town hall, organising a night away, or buttering slices of bread a group of very hungry eleven year olds - no two Scout meetings are the same. The difference you make, though, is always great. We provide the training. You show up, get stuck in, and make memories for life. Sounds fun? Worthwhile? Opportunities open in Edinburgh, East Lothian, Borders, Midlothian and Pentland. Roles vary and can include: Beaver, Cub or Scout Leader, Assistant Leaders, Occasional helpers, Executive Members, Treasurer, Secretary, Chairperson, Active Adult Supports, Speciality skills etc. Scottish Charity Number SC010563

Bringing Scouting to Clovenstone and Wester Hailes

Every young person deserves the chance to discover what they’re capable of. The chance to learn new skills, build real friendships, and find their place in something bigger than themselves. That’s what Scouting has always been about.

But right now, the communities of Clovenstone and Wester Hailes don’t have a Scout Group of their own. We want to change that — and we need your help to do it.

Something is already taking shape
We’ve been working with Clovenstone Primary School to lay the groundwork for something new: Squirrels and Beavers sections that would give local children the chance to experience Scouting close to home, in their own community.

The response has been wonderful. Following activity sessions and promotional work at the school, families in the area have shown real enthusiasm for what Scouting can offer their children. The interest is there. Now we need the people to make it happen.

Could you be part of this?
We’re looking for adult volunteers to join the team and help build this new provision from the ground up. You don’t need previous Scouting experience, and you don’t need to commit to every single week — whatever time you can offer makes a real difference.

If you’re someone who’d love to help lead and shape something genuinely new for your community, we’d especially love to hear from you.

We have still not recovered from spending the weekend alongside ukunit9wsj26 as they prep to go to Poland next year. Edinburgh city centre, the zoo, and the lack of midgies at Bonaly. Just what we needed.

Scouts has been part of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo since the very first show in 1950 — and this summer, we're looking for Explorer Scouts and Young Leaders to join the team.

Programme sellers work on the Castle Esplanade, meeting the Tattoo's home and international audience before each performance. It's a genuinely unique experience — and it counts toward DofE and badge work too.

Dates: 6–29 August 2026
Commitment: 6–7 nights across the run
Deadline: 21st June 2026
