We were delighted to welcome members of the 5 Military Intelligence Battalion to The Eric Liddell Community last Monday.

They generously gave their time and energy, working hard to sand, paint, and varnish various areas of our community hub.

As a lasting gesture of their visit, they also presented us with a beautiful plaque, which will be proudly displayed on our wall.

As Tartan Day (6th April) approaches, we are delighted that our EL100 US Ambassador, Mart Martin, was able to visit The Scottish Tartans Museum and Heritage Center in Franklin, North Carolina to donate a framed poster about the Eric Liddell tartan, which was developed in partnership with Kinloch Anderson in 2024.

Did you know that North Carolina has more residents of Scottish descent than Scotland!? We are delighted that our tartan is on display and will help to share Eric’s inspirational story with visitors to the Museum.

The values Eric inspired – Passion, Compassion, and Integrity – that we celebrated during the 2024 centenary year, are universal.

In 2025 we will be continuing to develop links with organizations to help us promote them in the U.S. and Canada.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of Eric Liddell’s passing. He was just 43 years old when he died in Weihsien Internment Camp in China.

Whilst the anniversary of his death at such a young age and under very challenging conditions is a sombre occasion, let’s join together in celebrating the positive impact that Eric Liddell’s life had on many people – the people that he taught and supported throughout his life, the joy and hope that he brought to others in the camp, and his values of passion, compassion and integrity that continue to inspire people today.

We are proud that we could celebrate Eric Liddell's legacy throughout 2024 with The Eric Liddell 100 campaign, and that his name continues to live on through the work of The Eric Liddell Community.

We are delighted to announce that the Garfield Weston Foundation will partner with us to fight loneliness and isolation in Edinburgh through a £150,000 grant award over three years towards our core operating costs!

Funding for core costs is one of the most profound ways our charitable partners can support the work we do; it ensures we can respond to urgent needs as they arise and have the flexibility to grow how we need to in response to the demand for our services.

Our warmest thanks to the Weston Family and the whole team at The Garfield Weston Foundation!

100 years on… greatness is achieved again 🏅

2024 has been incredible, thanks to all who supported The Eric Liddell Campaign.

In a historic parallel, the Olympic Games returned to Paris 100 years after Eric Liddell’s legendary 1924 performance, where he won gold in the 400m after withdrawing from his preferred 100m race as he was a man of great faith, and this race was scheduled for the Sunday. Eric’s story of courage and determination continues to inspire.

More than an athlete, Eric’s legacy as a missionary in China lives on through his acts of compassion and the countless lives he touched. Stories like Chariots of Fire and Sally Magnusson’s The Flying Scotsman keep his memory alive.

The Eric Liddell 100 set out to ensure that Eric Liddell's legacy was secured, shared and passed on to generations to come. Through sharing Eric's values of Passion, Compassion and Integrity, The Eric Liddell 100 has been involved in everything Eric Liddell in 2024, from Education to the Olympics, and Ceremonies to Celebrations, it has been a remarkable year sharing Eric's story worldwide.

Recognition for Running 🏃🏻‍♂️

Throughout 2024, as part of The Eric Liddell 100 campaign, we’ve had the privilege of highlighting the incredible efforts of local brothers Seb and Max Jellema. Their dedication to running and fundraising has been nothing short of remarkable.

Their commitment has now been officially recognised by our local MP, Ian Murray, who presented Seb and Max with a Community Hero Award for their outstanding contributions to The Eric Liddell 100's Olympic Year Appeal.

In September alone, Seb and Max took on the Flying Scots Challenge, running an impressive 100km to raise awareness and funds for the Olympic Year Appeal. Their hard work and determination were met with extraordinary gratitude.

At such a young age, the Jellema boys are truly inspiring the community, and we are glad that they can take inspiration from the work of Eric Liddell. Keep up the amazing work!
