Get your dancing shoes ready…👞

We're excited to be supporting Deiseil Airson Dannsa as they tour 'Deiseil: Dancing in Time' across Scotland, to deliver a series of stepdance performances and workshops along the way.

'Deiseil: Dancing in Time' is a celebration of Scottish stepdance, bringing together live music and dance to explore the tradition's rhythms and history on stage.
Alongside the tour, they'll also be facilitating a series of stepdance workshops - open to complete beginners wanting to try stepdance for the first time, musicians keen to explore the rhythms behind the dance, and anyone with an interest in Scottish traditional culture.

Together, we'll be bringing these performances and workshops to communities across the country, creating more opportunities for people to experience, learn about, and celebrate Scottish stepdance.

The Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Scotland Conference is back - taking place on Thursday 4th February 2027 at the Perth Theatre and Concert Hall

Join practitioners, tradition bearers, researchers and organisations from across the country for a day of inspiring talks, shared experiences and practical insights. Hear first-hand stories from those working to sustain and revitalise cultural traditions, and discover how organisations are supporting ICH across Scotland.

👉Who should join?
Everyone is welcome. Whether you're an artist, maker, craftsperson, tradition bearer, researcher, museum professional, heritage practitioner, community organiser, cultural organisation, or simply someone passionate about Scotland’s living heritage, we'd love to see you there.

Today is Gies A Scots Poem Day 🗣️

A celebration of the Scots language, poetry, and Scotland’s rich living traditions, the day shines a light on the power of verse to carry language, identity, humour, and shared memory across generations.

From traditional ballads and oral storytelling to contemporary Scots poetry, these voices continue to shape and strengthen Scotland’s intangible cultural heritage.

The Scots language thrives through everyday use, creativity, and community - and cultural moments like this help ensure these traditions continue to flourish for future generations.

Today we remember St Columba - or ‘Colmcille’, the “Dove of the Church”, who arrived on the shores of Iona in AD 563 with twelve companions, founding the small monastic community that would shape the spiritual and cultural life of Scotland for centuries. 🌱

From Iona, traditions of Gaelic prayer, pilgrimage, music, storytelling, manuscript-making, and hospitality spread across Scotland and beyond, becoming part of the intangible cultural heritage that still connects communities today.

The Feast of St Columba is not only a remembrance of a saint, but of the enduring traditions, language, and shared memory carried through generations around the Hebrides and Gaelic communities. 🙌

🎨📚 Looking for a unique opportunity in Scotland’s traditional arts sector?

We’re pleased to share this exciting opportunity from The University of Edinburgh for a Traditional Artist in Residence, based within Celtic and Scottish Studies and the School of Scottish Studies Archives.

This two-year, part-time residency offers an established traditional artist the chance to work alongside staff and students, engage with the renowned School of Scottish Studies Archives, and bring Scotland’s rich cultural heritage to life through creative practice.

Today marks the start of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month - a time to celebrate the cultures, histories, traditions and contributions of Gypsy, Roma and Scottish Traveller communities.

This year’s theme, “Onwards With Hope,” reflects the future we want to build together - rooted in respect, inclusion and cultural understanding.

We recognise Gypsy, Roma and Scottish Traveller cultures as an important part of our shared Intangible Cultural Heritage - living traditions carried through storytelling, music, craft, language and community knowledge across generations.

At last year’s Scottish International Storytelling Festival, these traditions were celebrated through performances exploring the legacy of Martyn Bennett and the influence of Scottish Traveller culture on his music, alongside stories and folklore from Nacken (Scottish Gypsy Traveller) perspectives that offered unique insights into Scotland’s history and place names.
