But right now, nature is facing its own storm and is calling on us to protect it. 🌍

Our waterways just got a whole lot cuter! 🦢

From May into June, canals, ponds and lochs welcome fluffy new arrivals. If you’re lucky, you might spot a mother swan carrying her cygnets on her back. 🤍

Remember to admire from a distance - swan parents can be protective (and feisty!) during breeding season. 👀

We've had a warm few days and wildlife might need a helping hand. Here are a few simple ways you can make a difference…

Leave out shallow bowls of fresh water for birds, mammals and insects, and offer wet food for hedgehogs. 🐝

Let parts of your garden grow a little wilder. Untrimmed plants give birds safe places to rest in the heat. 🌿

With permission, add small gaps in fences to allow frogs, toads and hedgehogs to move between gardens. 🦔

And don’t forget to always make sure food and water stations are kept clean to prevent spreading disease. 🫧

Marine conservation is for everyone! 👋

Restoration Forth recently welcomed members of the Deaf community to take part in surveying oysters in the Firth of Forth, supported by British sign language interpretation.

It was the first opportunity like this that many participants ever had - a powerful reminder that nature restoration must be accessible to all. 🌍

Language and nature are deeply interconnected, and we must protect both. With over 4,500 STEM signs now created - including new marine signs developed by members of the group - more people can access and engage with environmental projects.

A huge thanks to the Scottish Sensory Centre for their participation and support. Thank you also Emily Thorp for the brilliant photography! 💙

New Parliament. Same challenges for nature and climate. ⚠️

But it’s in our nature to act!

Imagine a Scotland where nature thrives and supports everyone - rivers run clean, wildlife’s restored, and communities breathe healthy air. Where farming works with nature to grow food and climate action creates green jobs.

This new The Scottish Parliament can shape that future.

We welcome the new The Scottish Government including John Swinney as First Minister, Gillian Martin for Aberdeenshire East Cabinet Secretary for Climate Action and Rural Affairs, Shirley-Anne Somerville Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice and Housing, Jim Fairlie SNP Minister for Agriculture, Marine and Islands, and Stephen Gethins SNP Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Energy.

We’re ready to work with all political parties to bring our world back to life. 🌍

In case you missed it, guidance for feeding garden birds has changed. 🐦‍⬛

To help reduce disease spread, RSPB recommend pausing seed and peanut feeders from May to October. You can still offer small amounts of mealworms, fat balls or suet.

Another way to help is to create insect rich habitats and grow plants that offer natural food sources such as sunflowers, teasel, bramble and burnet rose. 🌿
