On the 1st of July, Linda Hewson was honoured with an invitation to the prestigious Garden Party at Holyrood, in recognition of her outstanding services to charity. At 76 years old, Linda continues to dedicate her life to supporting people with head injuries through her ongoing work with Capability Scotland.
With over 30 years of unwavering commitment, Linda’s work is deeply personal. The Hewson family experienced firsthand the life-changing effects of a head injury when Linda’s late husband, John Hewson, suffered a tragic accident in 1991. Since then, Linda has become a cornerstone of the support network for those affected by Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).
“Working with head injured people is part of my life, a wider family, and almost a calling,” said Linda. “I don’t see it as work.”
The invitation to attend the Garden Party came as a delightful surprise, and Linda was joined by her daughter, Alexandra Broome, for the memorable occasion. Together, they enjoyed the stunning grounds of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, soaking in the celebratory atmosphere.
As a former keen milliner, Linda particularly enjoyed seeing the elegant display of hats worn by fellow guests. A highlight of the day came when Queen Camilla greeted Linda personally — and even complimented her on her beautifully crafted hat.
This celebration marks a treasured memory for the Hewson family — a tribute to the legacy of John Hewson and to Linda’s incredible contribution to the lives of so many.
