A Huge Thank You

Cousland Smiddy Trust and Cousland Local History Project sincerely thank all volunteers who helped us to make Doors Open Day at Cousland Smiddy on Saturday 13 September a great success.

We couldn’t participate in this annual national programme without your very generous contributions.

We had 143 visitors, 97 of them with us for the first time. They enjoyed horseshoe-making and horseshoeing demonstrations by the farrier; guided tours of the smiddy and the local history exhibitions in the smiddy cottage; home-made soups, breads and tasty sweet treats, teas and coffees in the smiddy paddock; the organic fruits and vegetables, jams and chutneys on offer. Many also enjoyed leisurely walks around the organic plots, the adjacent village park/football field and to various historic sites around the village.

A great effort from everyone helped us raise over £750.

Today we met some interesting - and interested, visitors of all ages. Including Dave the donkey who came for a hoof trim and was a very patient lad.

Call out for volunteers at Cousland Smiddy & Heritage Hub!
It’s your heritage too!

In its heyday, the Smiddy was at the centre of the village’s working and social life. It was much frequented by locals and visitors.

The smiddy remains at the heart of the village as a work-base for a rural craft and home to a heritage hub for the local community.

There are regular small jobs and one-off big projects that anyone can take part in.

People from far and wide have been volunteering at The Smiddy over the years, volunteers are our life-blood and we value their input enormously, we couldn’t do it without you.

Whether you are from the village or further away it would be great to count you in our team of volunteers.

Contact us and we can make use of your existing skills or teach you something new.

We are open on Saturday 7th and 14th June 10 – 1pm, when you can drop in and chat to the volunteers on duty about what is involved.

It’s a beautiful morning at the Smiddy for our first open day. The sun is shining , the furnace is burning and we have the first seedlings of the season , kindly donated by one our plotters. Seedlings can be yours for a small donation the Smiddy Trust.

We are open this morning from 10am until 1pm

Folk are asking what was going on today....???
Super team of students from Napier using the cottage as an indoor and out location for their film studies work. Film called Guttin' Quines will be completed in a few months for their course. Best of luck to them all and looking forward to seeing it completed.

Cousland Smiddy Trust will once again be hosting "Carols round the Forge" on Sunday 22nd December between 6pm and 7pm. This ever popular event will again be held inside Cousland Smiddy and is open to everyone.

Along with the festive music refreshments will also be served.
