Recently, Jade and Jo paid a very special visit to meet Darren and the team at Scotmid funerals. The visit was to learn and understand better how babies and their families are cared for when a funeral is being arranged. Jade has shared her thoughts about the visit:

"It was a highly informative and touching visit and incredibly reassuring to witness the dignity and respect shown to babies who have passed away."

We are now gifting small knitted Moses baskets, baby nests and cardigans to the funeral home for early losses, and our information postcards to those who have experienced a loss but did not receive a Simba Memory Box. We look forward to continuing to work in close collaboration to help further support those affected by baby loss. πŸ¦‹

Petal began volunteering with Simba following the loss of her and her husband Steven's son, Gary, on 17 March 2024. πŸ¦‹

Reflecting on her volunteering journey, Petal shared:

"I started volunteering with Simba after my husband and I went through the loss of our first child. Simba has helped me mentally as I feel it's somewhere I can go as a bereaved parent to openly chat with others who have experienced a similar situation to myself.

The most important part of being at Simba for me is being able to volunteer to ensure that every bereaved parent receives the same support that I have. I am proud to volunteer at Simba knowing I have helped to create a little box of love and comfort for those that need it most." πŸ’œ

Petal's compassion, dedication and desire to support others in Gary's memory make a lasting difference to so many families and we are so grateful to her for her time and support.

πŸ’™ Father's Day at The Kit-Tea CafΓ© πŸ’™
Forever Loved – Held By Rose Initiative

This Father's Day, we are opening our doors for a very special event dedicated to families whose lives have been touched by the loss of a child.

We warmly invite bereaved dads and their families to join us for a private, welcoming, and supportive Father's Day gathering.

No matter your child's age, how long ago your loss was, or the circumstances surrounding it, you and your family are welcome here.

We recognise that Father's Day celebrations can often focus on families raising children today, which can leave bereaved fathers feeling overlooked or unsure where they belong. Through our Forever Loved – Held By Rose Initiative, we want to create a safe space where dads can feel acknowledged, supported and celebrated as fathers.

Join us for a gentle animal therapy session with our resident rescue cats, alongside tea, cake, conversation and the opportunity to remember and honour your child in the company of others who understand.

These sessions are fully funded by The Kit-Tea CafΓ© and are free to attend.
πŸ—“ Sunday 21st June
πŸ•₯ 10:30am or πŸ•› 12:00pm
πŸ”’ Closed to the public – dedicated private sessions
These sessions are designed to offer a peaceful environment where families can reflect, share memories, celebrate the love they hold for their child, and spend time together surrounded by warmth, compassion and understanding.
We are honoured to have a representative from SANDS available throughout the sessions to offer support, guidance and a listening ear should anyone wish to access it.

πŸ’™ Because Father's Day belongs to every dad... including those whose children are held in their hearts.

πŸ“© To Reserve a Space
If you would like to attend, please get in touch to reserve a place for the special dad and his family.

After experiencing the heartbreak of losing her son Archie, Elaine found a deeply personal way to keep his memory close, she got a tattoo of his tiny footprint.
After receiving a Memory Box, Elaine later chose to volunteer with us, kindly donating her time to help create these same meaningful moments for other families. She shared:

β€œI recently volunteered with Simba to give back in a small way for the fantastic work they do to support families like mine in one of the toughest times imaginable. When I lost my son, Archie, I knew I wanted to commemorate him in some way. We had ink prints taken as part of our Simba Memory Box and I was so worried they would fade so I decided to get a tattoo in his honour. The tattoo uses a beautiful butterfly symbol (often a symbol for our angel babies) and forget-me-nots to signify that he will never be forgotten.

His treasured footprint will never fade and I will always have him with me thanks to the memory box we were provided with. The date marks his birth. It gives me great comfort just as the other Memory Box items still do today. The work Simba and others do for the baby loss community is so important. Thank you for helping me to treasure the memory of my special boy Archie.” πŸ¦‹

Our vision is that consistent, high quality memory making experiences exist for every bereaved family in Scotland to mark the loss of a baby. The compassion of our volunteers help make this happen. πŸ’œ

Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting Napier's Sighthill Campus to deliver training to third-year midwifery students on how to utilise Simba Memory Boxes. πŸ’œ

It was wonderful to speak with the student midwives about the importance of memory making and how these resources can be used to provide compassionate, family-centred care.

A huge thank you to the students for welcoming us. We with you all the very best as they continue their studies and prepare for their future careers πŸ’œ
