East Grinstead Children’s and Youth Choirs

The East Grinstead Children’s Choir was established in 2024 with a simple but heartfelt aim, to bring music to every child in response to the reduction of arts provision within the national curriculum. We set out to create an accessible, welcoming space where young people could experience the joy of singing, with affordable and free sessions, instrument rental, and performance opportunities for children in East Grinstead.

Over a short but joyful time, we had tremendous fun making music together and watching confidence and friendships grow. Alongside this, it has been wonderful to see a range of new opportunities for children’s music making emerge locally. With so much choice now available to families, we feel this is the right moment to bring this official branch to a close and release our fantastic band of volunteers to new ventures.

The choir’s name and legal entity will be retained for potential future use by an established adult choir, should that feel appropriate.

For those wishing to continue their musical journey, here are some local options:

- A children’s church choir at Holy Trinity Church in Forest Row

- Chequer Mead’s children’s choir, led by Kathleen Shuster, with a focus on modern and musical theatre repertoire

- Learts based on Railway Approach, offering children’s singing groups

Though our time has been short, it has been incredibly special. Most importantly, we encourage every child to keep singing.

🎒✨ Back to School = Time to Try Something New! ✨🎶

As clubs and hobbies kick off for the new term, why not let your child find their voice? Whether they’re brand new or ready to jump back in, Kathleen Shuster’s Children’s Choir is back and bursting with excitement!

🎭 This term’s theme? Becoming a recording artist; singing the songs they love while building confidence and having fun!

Kathleen brings a huge wealth of experience; from voice and piano teaching to Musical Director of the Crawley Down Ladies Choir. As the founder of Rising Stars Theatre Group, she lives and breathes music, drama, and dance!

Exciting news for young singers in East Grinstead! 🎶✨

While our Children’s Choir takes a little pause this January, the music is far from stopping. We’re thrilled that the wonderful Kathleen Shuster will be continuing the joy of group singing by leading her own children’s choir from Chequer Mead.

Kathleen is an accomplished piano and voice teacher, as well as Music Director of the Crawley Down Ladies Choir. Under her inspiring leadership, children have already begun reading music, rehearsing with piano, and even putting together a whole musical this term! 🌟

On Thursday 11th December, East Grinstead Children’s and Youth Choirs are hosting a family friendly community carol concert, and we would love to welcome as many local children as possible to sing with us! Families are warmly invited to come along and enjoy the evening too.

The concert itself is a collaboration between local musicians and 4 choirs and should be good fun!

There is no cost to take part, both the concert and the rehearsals are free!

We’re excited to see it grow into a much loved annual tradition.
