Meeting new people and making friends at social events is an important part of Lions, as well as serving your community. City of Durham Lions is part of Lions Clubs International, the largest membership-based service organisation in the world. There are more than 600 clubs and 10,000 members in the UK and our 1.4 million members in more than 49,000 clubs are serving in 200 countries and geographic areas. We donate to and take part in international initiatives in a number of different areas such as disaster relief, vision, diabetes, hunger, childhood cancer, environment and general humanitarian aid.

We still need new members so that our club can continue to serve our local community. We have raised thousands of pounds to help local charities and community groups over the past 50 years, but now we need your help to carry on, otherwise, sadly we will close down.
Please think about joining us! As a Lion you will help your local community, have fun and meet new people. It’s a very rewarding way to spend your time! You will also be part of a world-wide community of 1.4 million like-minded people around the world all helping their communities!
We have regular meetings, carry out service projects, raise funds, make donations and have social events!

Great work from Sunderland Lions CIO providing free simple PSA blood tests for men which can help diagnose Prostate Cancer. Remember men can get a free PSA test from their GP, but they need to ask for one and attend a counselling appointment. You can check your risk factor for prostate cancer at www.prostatecanceruk.org/risk8 😀
