The Old 68th Society Napolonics section was pleased to support the 8th Rifles Band at yesterday's Band in the Park concert at Wharton Park, Durham.

Alongside an afternoon of excellent music, we enjoyed demonstrating the uniform and equipment of the 68th Regiment and sharing a little of its history with visitors. A thoroughly enjoyable day in the park!

If you're looking for something to do today get yourself along to Wharton Park in County Durham. You'll find us there all day and displaying at 1pm. The perfect opportunity to have an informal chat if you've ever thought of joining us.

Looking for something to do this Saturday? 👀

We’re encouraging residents to join the 8th Battalion the Rifles, and their military band and bugles, for a fun-filled day of military music at Wharton Park.

It’s all part of the Rifles Freedom Concert which will be to celebrate ten years since the park’s reopened following a significant revamp.
Starting at 11am, visitors will be treated to :
🎵 Durham Music Wind Band morning workshop with the Rifles
🥘 Food and drink stalls including Caps Off Brewery, Grandpas Fish Bar and Street Coffee Co.
🔫 Paint ball and exhibition stalls
🪡 Craft activities for families
💪 Fitness coach from L K Health and Wellbeing
🥁 At 1pm, the 68th Society will be performing and carrying out re-enactments in memory of the Durham Light Infantry in the parks amphitheatre.
🎺 Residents will then be able to enjoy the concert from 2.30pm until 3.30pm.

There is no need for visitors to book, and seating will be available in the park’s outdoor amphitheatre on the grassed banks.

The concert comes at a poignant time as the day marks 82 years since D-Day. To mark the occasion, the cultural, heritage and registration venue, The Story Durham, will be lit up in commemoration.

Don't forget that you can see our Napoleonic section in action on our home turf this weekend at Beamish Museum (opening hours 10-5)! You'll find us camped next to Pockerley Old Hall. Watch firing displays, explore camp life and chat to us about what it was like to be among the ranks or to follow the drum! Can't wait to see you there!

We’ll be at Beamish this weekend for our Napoleonic Muster.

It’s always a good chance to bring the 68th to life, talk about the Durham Light Infantry’s story, and show a bit of the drill, kit, and camp life behind the history.

Interested in keeping history alive? We’re recruiting new members now. No experience needed, just curiosity, commitment, and a decent tolerance for wool.

History needs people. Come and join the ranks.

Enjoy an impressive Napoleonic muster as we are joined by The Old 68th Durham Light Infantry Society and Display Team, this Saturday, 16th & Sunday, 17th May 2026.

The group will be setting up camp on the picnic field at Pockerley Old Hall this weekend for a drill session, telling the story of life in the army at this time, and will perform musket-firing displays in the field opposite Pockerley Tram stop.
