Smelt Mill Smelt Mill is the HQ of Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team situated in the Trough of Bowland Welcome. It is an ideal location for your group's adventures.

The Forest of Bowland is a wonderfully wild area of 310 sq. miles, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is the home of Smelt Mill which was built in the 19th Century. It has been used by the Team for over 40 years and gradually converted into a specialist Mountain Rescue Base, including accommodation for visiting groups and team members undertaking training. untless hours of voluntary work by past and present team members and, as such, represents one of the team’s most valuable (and valued) assets.

UPDATE - After a few hurdles encountered we are pleased to say we now have our new cooker installed! Thanks to all who responded. An efficient and professional job done by Commercial Kitchen and Laundry Solutions UK Ltd. Highly recommended. A massive thankyou to Chloe Smith for her guidance and patience along the way.

After nearly 30 years of service to Smelt Mill and Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team (BPMRT), our oven has finally retired and is being replaced. We are looking for a qualified gas engineer to come to Dunsop Bridge and install the new commercial oven as soon as possible. If you know anyone who may be able help, we'd be very grateful if you could put us in touch.
