‼️CraftAbility Faces Closure After 60 Years! ‼️
A much-loved community organisation at the heart of Thaxted for more than 60 years is facing closure unless an urgent replacement manager can be found.
CraftAbility has long provided creative and social activities in a welcoming, caring environment for people across the Uttlesford area. The centre supports individuals with disabilities, their carers, and anyone interested in developing craft skills, helping to reduce isolation while promoting independence, wellbeing, and friendship.
Over its six decades, CraftAbility has had only three managers. However, the current manager is now preparing to retire, leaving the charity searching urgently for someone to take on the role and continue its vital work.
Without a suitable replacement, the organisation may have no option but to close its doors permanently!
The centre operates on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30am to 2:30pm and offers a wide range of recreational and social activities designed to improve quality of life and encourage greater independence for all who attend.
The manager’s role involves overseeing the day-to-day running of the centre, including liaising with community transport providers, maintaining members’ personal records, communicating with family members and carers, attending trustee and committee meetings, and supporting the treasurer with financial administration to name a few.
Members and volunteers describe CraftAbility as “a place to create, connect and belong” — a warm, welcoming, and nurturing environment that offers a meaningful way to give back to the community.
Whilst this is not a paid employment role, an annual honorarium is granted to the individual for their kind work and assistance to CraftAbility.
For anyone interested in learning more about the position is encouraged to get in touch before 8 June via email at [email protected]
