Why I took part in Prematuri-tea: Clar's story 💜

From those first weeks in neonatal care to seeing Isabella grow today, every family's journey is unique. For one of our wonderful supporters, Clar, organising a Prematuri-tea was a way to give something back to the people who supported her family along the way.

Reflecting on her experience, she shared:

“Organising the Prematuri-tea in the office last year was so heart-warming. We had so many people who were willing to donate cakes for the sale, donate their time to help on the day with setting up and chat to folks about their own experience.

The Prematuri-tea was my way of saying thanks to the Neonatal team and the Archie Foundation for all their help and support while Isabella was in neonatal for 4 weeks. Everyone was so reassuring and nothing was ever too much. We cannot thank the nurses in neonatal enough”

Stories like Isabella's remind us why supporting neonatal families matters, and how a simple cup of tea and slice of cake can make a difference 💜

Making hospital experiences a little easier for children!

We caught up with two lovely nurses from the Neurophysiology Department at Ninewells Hospital to hear about the difference Archie-funded resources are making for children undergoing tests and procedures.

From distraction toys that help ease anxiety during tests, to projectors that create a calming environment when children need to relax or fall asleep, these little touches can make a huge difference. 💛

It's wonderful to hear firsthand how these resources are helping make hospital experiences more comfortable and less daunting for children and their families.

💙 Supporting the people behind the play 💙

Throughout , we’re celebrating not only the importance of play in hospital, but also the incredible people who make it possible.

Play Specialists across Tayside work closely with children who may be anxious or struggling during a hospital admission. Through tailored play programmes, preparation and distraction, they can help reduce fears, support children through procedures and make their hospital experience that little bit easier.

Earlier this year, members of the team had the opportunity to attend the Society of Health Play Specialists Annual Conference, where professionals from across the sector came together to share learning, ideas and best practice.

With limited budget available to attend, Archie funded the team’s travel costs, helping make sure they could benefit from this opportunity.

Supporting professional development like this means new ideas, knowledge and approaches can be brought back to Tayside – ultimately helping the team continue providing the best possible support for local children and young people. 💛

It was wonderful to visit the Play Centre and see all the amazing activities taking place as part of Play in Healthcare Week. From face painting and face gems, to a very special visit from Spiderman, it was fantastic to see so many smiles on children and staff's faces and such a positive atmosphere 🥰

It was also lovely to see the Play in Healthcare Week display in the entrance of the Children’s Hospital, featuring the toys provided by Archie to help support children during their time in hospital.

Seeing children and staff having so much fun together was a lovely reminder of just how important play is in helping make hospital a more positive, comforting and child-friendly experience. 💙

🧸 It’s Play in Healthcare Week! 💙

For children in hospital, play is so much more than just having fun. It can provide a little bit of normality in an unfamiliar environment, help reduce fears and anxieties, and support children to cope with procedures and their hospital stay.

Across NHS Tayside, the Play Service supports children and young people through tailored play, distraction and recreation, whether that’s in the dedicated Play Centre or at a child’s bedside.

Here in Tayside, Archie is proud to support this amazing work by funding kit, toys and specialist play equipment for the team to use with the children they care for.

These resources can help Play Specialists prepare children for procedures, provide distraction and comfort, and make hospital feel that little bit less daunting.
